Where to host mission critical WordPress site?

Where would you host a WordPress site which is mission critical and can not afford to have any substantial downtime?

Does WordPress VIP take adult? Anyone have experience with them?

Cue folks saying no mission critical site should be on a WP engine ...

Try Hostgator. Texas based. Reasonable prices and their dedicated servers come with WP ready to go.

I agree, in a perfect world, but ... Some sites need better uptime than others. Some sites, nobody is going to freak out over a few hours of downtime. Some sites will trend on social media if they have 10 minutes of downtime.

Thanks. Is their URL hostgator.com? I'm having trouble getting past a Cloudflare robot check on that. Maybe I am a robot.

I kinda don't care about the price for this project, just need reliability and excellent tech support for specifically WordPress sites.

Yeah, I've used HG before, I wouldn't recommend them for anything important

can i ask what type of site this is for?

i haver a bunch of clients running adult wp sites that do over 100,000 visitors a day, and have zero downtime on mojohost.

wordpress vip pricing you are going to be paying around $10,000 a year for just the support. thats without the actual wordpress hosting.

i think they start at around $10,000 a month for vip hosting.

i used to use HG for WP a long time ago but they have process and mem management problems. i like a2hosting (i wont even use an aff link) because they have optimized their servers and installs for speed.

I would go with Sly @ vacares.com

Since I moved my sites there, I have had 100% uptime.

Uptime: 134 days, 13 hours, 20 minutes.

The uptime linux command is not reliable way to tell do you have 100% uptime or not, it only say how your server did not restarted. For network uptime, you would need to have external checker which will ping your site every x minutes and based on that you will know your actual uptime.

Good to know, thank-you.

I do have external trackers that check my sites every 5 minutes, and I have not received an alert as of yet.

We used to be with hostgator before moving to a dedicated server to a company in Canada...

We had no problems with hostgator then, we just wanted to get a dedicated with Netelligent as we´d heard good things about the company, & they were excellent.

Now back with Hostgator as Netelligent only offer dedicated, not needing a dedicated for our blog & few small domains.

Our blog, a WP base site, was running on a British server, they said after 5 years of running our blog with them, "we don´t do adult", no emails, no pre warning, just cut us off! They allowed us to go into the server to send everything across to Hostgator...

the site was back up & online within an hour or so of purchasing the server, no problems since & no down times

WTG HG!

Jesus stay away from HG at all costs. They are owned by a conglomerate who uses the cheapest hardware and support is atrocious.

If you REALLY want 100% uptime, find a wordpress to static site generator and export your site as html only.

Then serve those html files from a CDN with an offline function (keep serving files even if the origin is down.

Result: blazing fast site that will remain up even if your wp instance gets hacked all for the price of a local wordpress instance and a
CDN starting at $10 a month.

I host several high traffic sites like this

An alternative to that would be memcached . Memcached basically load page from memory/cache always once first query is done and it stay that way till content of query is changed.

That is indeed an alternative. The reason I dont so it is so I can 100% seperate wordpress from the production site. If WP goes down,my site will still be up

I think the name is wp-static.

It might take a bit of tinkering to set it up the first time. You’ll need to work on excluding unecessary files and including files the plugin might miss.

Also, some functions like, for example, the search bar will need to be changed to either use ajax or ping your php server to get results. So its up to you to decide if you want to keep certain functionalities dynamic or not.

Memcached should keep site up as well as it's cache , tho did not tried downtime scenario so cant tell for sure. Originally when i was doing my tube script, i made cache system based on file storage, where i would save each output as html file and load that on every next load. But then i read somewhere how is better to use system like memcached because memcached is using memory as storage, and memory is faster then hard drive so i switched to memcached, and loading cached/saved pages were indeed faster, plus memcached have ability to automatically detect if content of query changed, while with my previous solution that had to be done manually.

That makes sense.

I'd be curious to know if a memcached page is served faster through your server than a static file through a CDN.

any server on a different host can run a monitoring script. there's a script on codecanyon for like $10.

then get another host to watch that host

Not everyone are system administrators lol . Plus commercial uptime checkers have one advantage - they check from multiple geo locations which is also handy as it can tell you if people from certain geo cant access your website.

Where is your budget at ? There is ways to make a webpage close to impossible to takedown, and restoration after a "breakdown" as quick as you can login to a dashboard.

I do my hosting in AWS, for business critical i use docker images and multiple regions.
