Section 230 Under Fire ❌

Lawmakers in both the House and Senate have introduced new bills that could repeal Section 230, the law that protects online platforms from being held liable for user-generated content.

This doesn’t just affect adult platforms — it’s the legal backbone of the modern internet.

Without Section 230:
  • Platforms could be sued for everything users post
  • Comment sections could disappear
  • Uploads would be heavily restricted or pre-screened
  • Controversial or marginalized speech would be silenced
  • Smaller platforms — especially adult sites — could be wiped out entirely

Sites like YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Yelp, and Wikipedia only function as open platforms because Section 230 exists. Take it away, and the safest move for companies is over-censorship or shutting down user content altogether.

For adult platforms, the risk is even higher. Legal experts warn that repealing or carving out Section 230 could be catastrophic, opening the floodgates to lawsuits and threatening the entire business model of fan sites, cam platforms, and adult communities.

We’ve seen this before with FOSTA/SESTA — and many fear adult content could be next.

This is one of the most serious efforts in years to dismantle the law that underpins today’s internet.

Without Section 230, the internet as we know it doesn’t survive.

If it goes through what will likely happen is that those big sites you mentioned will be somehow exempt and all the rest of us won't. It's kinda how things work. Most people won't care as long as they can still use FB, TT, IG etc.

Left or Right wing ... it doesn't matter, they're the same entity wearing different hats.

I hate to say it, but sadly, I don't think you are wrong.

That's a lazy way to avoid pointing out who exactly it is on both sides doing this, and why...

It ain't the Mexicans or the pink haired trannies. It ain't the antifers or da blackz.

Once we can get to the actual root of the real problem, we'll be able to weed it out. But until then, we'll all be unhappily divided ever after as conquered masses tightly controlled via digital ID's.

And a lot of folks on this forum will be careerless and possibly registered sex offenders per page 5 of the forward of Project 2025.

Keep in mind our left wing is considered center right wing politically everywhere else, besides the progressive caucus.

Pretty much this. You wouldn't want people feeling uncomfortable or unsafe online, so they will make sure everything is totally Facebook-approved!

...and if you want any sort of unfiltered news or entertainment, then everyone's going to think you're a nutjob or a sicko!

Then we will see either the rise of the dark web - or a whole new web emerge.

Tell us you have no idea what you voted for without telling us you have absolutely no fucking idea what you actually voted for.

Chapter 28

"The FCC should issue an order that interprets Section 230 in a way that eliminates the expansive, non-textual immunities that courts have read into the statute.” - Brendan Carr, current Trump appointed Chairman of the FCC

And Europeans are banned from entering the country due to allegations of censorship against hate speech and incitement on the internet!

America doesn't understand anyone anymore these days; nowadays, America gets on your nerves more than the Russians do!

There will be no push back from big tech because they are all owned by a certain group of people who want to end criticism of the gaza war and anti semitism. Which is like ketchup— it can be applied to anything

This isnt an administration or Republicans vs Democrat issue...

Graham's Senate Bill has 9 co-sponsors... 5 of them are Democrats...

This is politicians thinking that they can regulate Big Tech for their own purposes.

Democrats hate free speech and want to curb what is said online.

Republicans hate that they cant control the narrative about them and other conservative issues.

I doubt it will pass though. Especially with how close (and important) social media is to Trump. And he owns a large part of TruthSocial and they just did a $6 billion deal with Google. Obviously Musk is close to Trump but so is Zuckerberg & Bezos. All 3 are arm-in-arm with him.

Trump is ostensibly owned by the small hatters

if the online platforms are making money from the content being uploaded to their platforms then they should be held liable
