how come you can register 1 or 2 letter domains?

It isn't allowed anymore to register 1 letter domains not sure about 2 letter domains. At some stage they just forbade registering new 1 letter domains for some reason. Those who had registered before that didnt't naturally lose their domain names.

z.com is nissan pretty much all of them have whois info as well

yeah i noticed x.com is paypal. thought this was weird that we could not register the stuff. hmm oh well. just curious if there is a particular reason.
