Some where either there is a part of the movie that is corrupted, or its crashing because theres not enough memory to complete it?

Just a guess, Id go with a corrupted movie file

Are you trying to render more than 4 gigs on a FAT32 file system?

The FAT32 file system will only allow up to 4 gig files. You have to convert your drive to the NTFS file system in order to render larger files.

Movie Maker is okay for some basic stuff but if you are going to get heavy into editing you should really consider Premiere or at least Vegas.

You could also process the smaller files then join them together. Got a piece of software on LUMYR that'll do that if you need it.

ya..was going to suggest that.

How many bits are you encoding at? Are the originals quality decent enough so that you could say maybe drop the encoding rate anywhere between 30-50% of current rate? Sometimes people encode at such a high rate that they don't really need to do. Granted..if ya shrink the encoding rate, it's going to take you that much longer to get the encoding done..but at least you might get it under 4 gigs that way. I forgot how far through the entire project is at 4 gigs.

Ok..if you're only at 55% when you hit the 4 gig mark..you're gonna have to render it at 50% of the current rate you have it set at.

And yeah..would STRONGLY advise an investment in Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video if you're gonna be doing ongoing heavy duty video editing.

Not only does it have the most/best features (imho), but works the fastest also.

Did you get the windows movie maker update patch or whatever? there was some thing I remember about how it patched for making you able to make bigger movie files, but I think it was quality related :|

Probably out of memory RAM or HD space.

Our video machine has a separate 120 gig NTFS drive just for rendering videos, plus the original FAT32 drive. You can add a second drive like we did, partition the drive into two different file systems using a program like Partition Magic 7.0 (about $50, I think), or convert your existing drive to a NTFS system. If you're going to do larger video files, you're definitely going to want the NTFS file system eventually. This page on Microsoft.com explains the differences between the file systems: CLICK HERE

Scroll all the way to the bottom to see the differences, and for instructions to convert your drive to NTFS if you want.
