Did anyone here ever own one of these cars?

What do you think of them?

Owned a 1994 850CSi. Great car, but it was overengineered, too many features, something tiny was being fixed all the time. That is a crappy picture, of an older, lesser model (I think). The engine was completely badass, great sleeper, I had a manual... fucking miss that thing, but not the repairs every couple of weeks. The sound was badass, and the engine was so tight -- you can find movies on the net of a nickel (about the same size anyway, foreign coin) being balanced on the engine while revving. Do it some justice -- basically the same as my car but mine was black, can dig out pix if needed.

A friend of mine has 2 of them. They drive great!

The back seat is pretty much useless... even my daughter, at 2 years old had to sit with her legs crossed (indian style) as there was no leg room.

I had a blast driving the car!
One of his has over 200k miles on it.. the other has 85k. I couldn't tell the difference.

:-)

The back seat is an insurance thing, not there for "real" use, but it isn't as *much* of a sports car with a back seat, Grand Touring is what it was classified as, and you get a good break on insurance.

When the 8 series was released in 1990 it was considered to be an achievement in design as well as function. BMW had yet to really perfect the v 12. In 1994 the 8 series wa then scaled back to a 4.0 liter v8 now designated the 840. This proved to be a much better power plant for the car.

unfortunately the reputation of the heavy and somewhat underpowered v12 had damaged the credibility of the car. The car originally listed for over 80k

Today you can find one for around 15k if you look hard enough (in condition with fairly low miles) the reasoning is that the v12 is notorious for needing maintainance.

When the car is equipped with late model m series five stars it looks as stunning as anythihng on the road today. It dramatically changes the stance of the car and gives it the much needed aggressive styling it lacked when introduced.

You can think of this car as the Mercedes Cl series way before its time.

Look for a revived six series coupe in the very near future to be based off the yet to be released new generation of five series models.

The 8 series is a timeless car imho i believe the 8 series is at the bottom of the market. It would be a sound investment as i believe it will only increase in value now.

I'd like to know where you could find those -- just saw one sold down the street, 1994 CSi with 32k miles for $42k.

if you scour the many euro car lots in santa monica hermoSA BEACH ETC THEY ARE A DIME A DOZEN

anyone and I mean anyone asking 42k for that cart is a kook!

you are also lookibng at a 1994 which is most likely an 840 with the less problematic v8....and yes they do retain the value more than the 850 v12.

I did not pull that number out of my ass i have been looking for the right one for years....I really want the all black schnietzer with 18's

also 32k miles is excetionally low miles......but still very high at 42k

when i mean low miles for a ten plus year old car I mean like 70k

The 8 series was the best design BMW ever made. It's the only car that looks as sporty as BMW engines actually are.

I bought the car because I love the speed and the look. I would only drive a convertible. I could not see myself driving through the beach in Mailbu with a roof over my head. That would just be a shame.

I wasn't saying your numbers were bunk, just that I'd like to see some of those around where I live, about an hour north of Boston. It was an 850, one very similar to what I used to drive, with the v12, it wasn't just that he was asking 42,000 for it, that is what it sold at. It isn't uncommon to see 850's for sale around 35k+ all around the US -- just look at cars.com. Now that I took a look there is a 94 CSi for sale @ 54,000 with 20k miles...

We drive on the oppsite side of the road and overtake on the right... overtaking on the left = make sure there are no police around.

Although you'd probably end up in the back of a truck.

at one point i really loved these 840/850's - but they are too old
these days, europe made there last one 98" - US finished with
them in 95 or 96"

I got a 5 rigged out to the bone, its actually on Ebay right now.
images of my bitch are below.
