I feel so violated!

Never in my life have I been the victim of a break in. Well leave it to me to not set my alarm last night and someone (likely kids) broke into the entry door on my garage, rifled through my car and my son's car (both were unlocked and in the garage) and tried to pry apart the door handle on my son's pickup.

All they took was a garage door opener and a mailbox key. The opener has been reprogrammed and the mailbox lock rekeyed. Spent the afternoon getting car alarms installed on both the boys' vehicles.

Cops took pics and fingerprints, but likely nothing will come from it. Now I'm freaking that they're gonna try to come in the house.

Also - I was broken into 3 times one year.

It's terribly violating. It doesn't feel safe for awhile. But that passes.

You need to talk to a security consultant - there are various things you can have done to your house that will make it unattractive to thieves without having it turned into a fortress.

Most thieves are just looking for an easy place to rob so even a minimum level of security is usually enough to deter them.

Something about the kids in the Pacific Northwest on summer vacation. There's been a rash of car break-ins around the Portland area.

Get the old code from the garage door and make an alarm to go off so if he presses the button to open your door you know he is back.

That's terrible Persian

Recently I had someone try to steal the tires off of my '77 Scout. They must of been scared of but managed to loosen and remove the lug nuts off of the fron drivers side tire.

I didn't realise what had happened until the tire flew off while driving around a corner.

Not a good morning.

PK, you need me to come up and break some kneecaps?

I have a pellet gun that looks kinda like a .22 and had some kids go over my back wall all the time...I hit the backdoor with that thing and started talking like a crazy man and those kids almost shit themselves. I was acting like I was hearing voices and begging the voices to stop telling me to kill

When I had my house up for sale...the real estate agents would have 'open house' on Sundays....I was already packed and getting ready to move....

I think it was probably someone who came to the Open House that weekend, because a few days later, I came downstairs and noticed my dining room window was shattered and all my boxes were gone. They had even come upstairs to my bedroom. I think they weren't expecting anyone to be home; but they heard me in the bathtub....my radio was on pretty loud....

So, these bastards not only took my stuff....all nicely marked in permanent ink and packed up...they did it when I was bathing...

I feel for you, PK....

I look around my house now...in Washington...and I realise that there isn't any way to keep someone out who wants to come in.

Safety is truly an illusion and locks only keep honest people honest.

Yes.. I'm persiankitty.com I think anyone else posting under the name of PersianKitty would have been booted out long ago.

There is more than minimal security here, but I'd left the alarm off because the boys had a friend over.. they stay up late and sometimes will go to the fridge in the garage for pop, juice or milk. Never would of thought I needed to lock my car doors in my garage. Adding some extra deterrants on the door they came in through in a few days. Possibly adding a driveway motion detector also.

Hey PK,

I have never been broken into, but I can imagine how violated you would feel.
It is a shame when you work and other people try to steel what you've earnt - usually people who have never worked before, and probably never had things stolen from them, so they don't know how it feels to be a victim of theft.

I always try and look on the bright side of life

I'm sure it could have turned out worse, you still got your health, & still got persiankitty.com

PK;
I've been jacked in my home 5 times and every single time it was committed by someone who knew me or had been in my home before. I got my stuff back most of the time by agreeing not to press charges against them if I got my stuff back. Then I threaten to cut their guts out and ran them out of my neighborhood. Your robbers are probably teenagers in the area. If you have kids they probably know the crooks.

That really sucks, sorry to hear about that. I have never had my home broken into but my car has been. Here in my neighborhood they broke a garage in to steal a car. Pretty crazy and risky but they got away with it. Are you going to be at Internext?

PK I know what you are dealing with. Sometime after the 4th of July some cockholsters ( probably kids) tried to set my fishing camp on fire.

They put some plastic chairs underneath it ( the camp is raised since its on the water) and lit the chairs on fire... luckily it burned itseld out, so there was no structural damage - only smoke damage.

I was pretty pissed, Arson is a major crime - but cops did not do anything but write a report. I was thinking of putting up a cash reward on my own....

Would not happen with a high end, well bred and trained executive protection dog.

Brad bought one, but could not keep it so he gave her to me.... she is awesome... and I feel comfortable leaving my wife at home alone.

She is great around my nephews, who are 3 and 1.5 - they are very rough with her.

Yeah little things like that suck. I had a rental car outside for 2 nights while my real car was being worked on. I had lots of moutain biking equipment, bags, gloves, $150 sun glasses. I had $2.50 in change that I had in the middle console.

They broke the back left window, left my $150 sun glasses (the seat was down covering them), and took the $2.50 in coins.

I went to get the window fixed and fuck it had to be a special window from Hyandai which cost $200 US

Thats assholes, $2.50 for $200 worth of damage.

Right after I moved to Vegas I had somone try to break in.

I was still in bed about 10am, someone started ringing the doorbell, since I didn't answer the door they figured I wasn't home. They kept ringing the damn doorbell, and it pissed me off, so I got up, put my pants on and started down the stairs just in time to see someone on the back porch trying to pry the window open. Before I could get out the back he saw me coming and took off. I'm so fat and out of shape I couldn't catch him. If it would have happened the day before no one would have been home.

Beth, I feel for you. I used to live in a lovely little house in the "country". Actually it was just outside of town, in a relatively safe neighborhood, but it was very secluded - in other words, easy for someone to pull off a burglary without being seen. I was burglarized at least three times, even with an alarm. They never got a lot of stuff, but it's the idea that someone's invaded your home that really hurts.

The fear/pain/pissed-offednedss does diminish after a while. But it never goes away.

Raven, DAMN! I don't think I'd heard that story before. That's scary and creepy and very sucky.

Petty thieves are the scum of the earth. I have much more respect for serious criminals.

Last time I was just out for 40 mins and by the time I got back they had broken in, taken all clothing, all bedding (sheets), all electrical goods, 5 computers, 60cm tv, and been through everything and even stripped the beds with a knife for hidden stuff. used gloves so we didn't get prints.

We now have a dog (Rottie), sensor lights on ever side of the house, an internal alarm system, security grates on all windows, monitored alarm integration which guarantees to send someone over within 10 min of the alarm going off, and will soon be getting a 2nd layer of alarm systems which are roof mounted and can only be activated and shut off with a hidden control pad, or a portable remote. no little fucker is getting in again !

Getting worse here in Australia. I would just like to catch one of the kids in the act. I would probably be guilty of what Scott did years back ...

dogs are an excellent idea.. not all of them are "mad killers" fool, so what if the dog takes a bite out of someones ass for breaking into her house....its well deserved. dogs will bark or let you know when someone is near or about to go in the yard....duh..better than some alarm system that goes off once the criminal is already in the house and heading out the door. I had the greatest dog once... she would let people enter the area without a bark..and when she silently crepted up on your ass.. you werent leaving unless I released her......people are way less to jump a fence or go on property that is protected by "big dogs".

the sign on my property in Texas:
"you better hope my dogs get to you first..cause i bite with a shotgun"..

PK, good luck in whatever your decision is.. sucks to be violated!

They broke the back left window, left my $150 sun glasses (the seat was down covering them), and took the $2.50 in coins.

I went to get the window fixed and fuck it had to be a special window from Hyandai which cost $200 US

Thats assholes, $2.50 for $200 worth of damage.

LOL Some one tried to steel my car but all they did was break the door handel So you have to open it from the inside! Thank god it was the passengers door!
Sorry that happend PK.

PK,

I would suggest putting up some small hidden cameras that face the door they came in, etc. When they come back they will get caught on camera. They have some that come on/start taping when motion is detected. That way it is not taping the entire time.

I had a break in about a year ago, nothing was taken. They came in the back garage door and the alarm was going off (about midnight). They then opened the kitchen door going out into the garage. My 6 year old son ran into our room after the alarm woke him up and said he heard someone in the garage talking. Basically they were seeing if someone would get up, etc. I was too busy running to get my gun out of the lock box and get a flashlight, by the time my son came in. They took off. The cops were there within a few minutes and got some foot prints, finger prints.

Now I even keep the alarm on my car while its in the garage, I also installed a few more locks on the back door, I installed another lock on the door going into the garage from the kitchen and lock it nightly.

Good thing for the alarm or thing's could have been alot worse.

Good luck with getting everything take care of, and definitely use it as a learning experience.

I don't know if I could stay in the same house after a breakin. Very scary. I have a friend who use to frequent a couple of chatrooms - non-porn. He revealed a little too much about himself and his possessions. I can't remember whether he gave out his address, but many knew where he lived.

He had alarms and a dog. He has had two entries into his home...one during the day when he was gone, and one during the night when he was in the house sleeping. They stole cash, jewelry, cameras, guns, radio & tv equipment, and food out of his frig with a note, saying, "thank you!" What balls!

Later, he installed cameras, and signed up for a security company to patrol his home and neighborhood. He is divorced, but has his son on the weekends. He fears for the safety of his family.
