basically, acacia says they own the patent on streaming video on the Internet. They want a percentage of your gross for using their technology. They want you to sign an agreement to pay them, or they sue you.

that's about it in a nutshell.

Is there a difference between "streaming" video and presenting a .MPG file to download?

They also claim they're not going after everyone... only people with money, or people that use video in a commercial venture, so... people like your grandma wouldn't get sued if she put up a vacation video.... at least that's what I got from the D$ show.... although I didn't get to hear the whole interview.

I think I heard him say something about zip files too... so it's not just streaming, but it sounds more like the file itself. Not sure how that can be, but that's what I got from it. He mentioned something about Winzip being in violation if video was included

ftp transfers.. if something is zipped and ftped, it can still fall under their patent.
