I have the 5700 and it works great, but I am stepping up from the 5700 also.

I dont know about the 5400 however I have used earlier models of the Nikon coolpix cameras. They are not named well. Nikon should rename their camera "The redeye special". No matter what we did, no matter how we set up the lighting, no matter how we bounced the flash, redeye like you wouldn't believe.

We could have a girl sitting on a couch..shoot her with the Nikon, then again with the Sony without either the model or photographer moving. Nikon - redeye. Sony - no problem.

Again..this was with earlier versions, not the 5400 per se.

Red-eye has nothing to do with the camera itself. What matters is how close the lens is to the flash.
