Can't load google and other SEs

Anyone having or had this problem? I can't get google to load it times out, Yahoo loads but when I do a search it times out, no luck loading altavista either. Tried on my other computer and they load fine. Tried going to google through a proxie and that loaded fine as well. Is this some kind of spyware shit going around again? It's really pissing me off ran adaware and spybot and no luck. If anyone knows what might be causing this I'd appreciate it.

No I can load google fine on my other computer that is on the same cabel set up. So it's something specific to my computer. I am guessing its some ad shit that tries to reroute me when I go to a majopr SE and it's timing out or some shit.

hi, just forget about what that other guy said (no offence).

What your problem is that you got a virus on your computer..
that virus is still smal but it`s out there it is trying to ruin google.. and even tryes to redirect the traffic somewhere else.. i know it is wierd but i will try to find some more info about it.

simplely, you may dump all the text at your host file and add just one line "127.0.0.1 localhost".

go to C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc

and edit the hosts file

it should be like this:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

do you see any other entry?

When sites are down, always try

http:/www.traceroute.org

You'll find out quickly if it's your ISP, DNS or if it's really down.

This happened to me recently, One computer and just one was acting that way.

Seems my browser got hijacked somehow and all google searches were trying to go to some kinda crap site called "slawsearch.com" but that wasn't loading so i got nothing every time I tried to go to google.

Used "Search and Destroy" to look for spyware/adware and slowly found all the bastards and fixed/deleted them.

Sounds like the same may have happened to you

Search and destroy didn't clean it up when I ran it. Had to change the host file as they said above.

"Trojan.Qhosts cannot spread by itself. For a computer to become infected, you would have to open an HTML page that contains code, which allows it to open a viral HTML file on the target computer, so that the script can create and run the malicious executable."

Damn spread from visiting a web page. That's fucked up. Thanks for the heads up to all that helped out.

SOB! After running the tool from Symantec, I still couldn't get to Google! I'm running XP and went into c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and the host file there looked fine. So, I did a search and found another hosts file in c:\windows\help . That one was the culprit. I renamed it to "bullshit.txt" and will restart. Should work now.

Yuppers! That took care of it!

actually, none of that helped me, lol.

i got adaware and removed a ton of entries.... my hosts file in drivers/etc was fine, and i did a search for more hosts files, and it found 2 others.. one had a ton of search engine shit in it, and i deleted it... the other one was fine as well.

still doing it.

This a "parasite"

Ad aware 6.0 will fix it. Or you can manually change the hosts file.

This is a new parasite that can install itself without permission!

Always remember that your hosts file should be "read only".
