What is the difference between dpi & ppi

If I want something to be 600 dpi would I set the image to 600 ppi or is there a variance between the two?

dots per inch, versus pixels per inch?

is a pixel the same as a dot?

Ppi (Pixels per inch) ? a measurement of the amount of information scanned from an image.

Dpi (Dots per inch) ? a measurement of the output resolution of a printer, copier, imagesetter, or monitor

well I think all you need to worry about is that pixels are square whereas dots are round. SO if a printer has a minimum requirement of 1200dpi you should set whatever your output is to at least 1200ppi. They ARE 2 different things but the technicals of it are much better off being left to a printer. PPI is only as good of whatever is printing the image. so if your printer uses a 2400dpi printer and you set your PPI too low or high it may output much larger or look funky.
