They said on the TODAY show that it's pretty damn close to being there... I'm sure they "fluffed" it a bit, just to show the intensity of the situation. Like when the nurse feeds her the peaches, and the soldier comes in. The music and sound effects were to intensify the fact that she was terrified for just being in the presence of those men.

now i might get flamed for this comment... but i think its sad how people make her out to be the hero but forget to show how brave that man was who helped the americans... this movie did lots of justice for that man and i belive that he is the hero in this situation, aswell as the americans that lost their lives

I don't see why you would get flamed... I agree.

Except for thinking she's made out to be the hero, I never got that impression from any of the media.

"A journey to the home town of Jessica Lynch by the Iraqi lawyer who helped to free the young American soldier ended in embarrassment for all concerned when she snubbed him.

Miss Lynch, portrayed as a heroine of our times for her courage while a prisoner of war, was too busy to receive the visitor, her family's lawyer said. Her saviour, Mohammed al-Rehaief, was outwardly understanding of her failure to appear during his trip. "I know she had a very difficult time in Iraq and she takes rest," he said.

However, Mr al-Rehaief, who has been granted asylum in the United States for fear of revenge attacks in Iraq, was reported to be disappointed by her failure to meet him on his visit to Palestine, West Virginia.

The Lynchs' lawyer, Stephen Goodwin, denied that rivalry between the 20-year-old former soldier and her Iraqi benefactor over competing media projects was to blame for her absence. "Absolutely not," he said.:

I refuse to watch this garbage. Just the advertisement for it where they labeled this stupid girl's story "the story that inspired a nation". Speak for your own fucking self NBC, because shes not a hero like the media labeled her as. I just don't get it, what about the special op forces that rescued her, or the SEAL teams that execute flawless missions every day. Where are their book deals and heroism praise? What the fuck did she do to be a hero? She got caught (probably didnt fire her weapon), was held hostage and got raped (because she was a girl, hence the reason they off'ed most of her buddies), and then she got her ass rescued, so now shes a brave hero soldier with a $1M book deal. If she was such a fucking hero, where's her fucking medal? There is none, because the Army knows shes not a fucking hero, she didn't do anything except get saved.

Stories like these make me embaressed to be an American.

I completely agree with your general direction. Who has ever heard, for example, of Sgt Donald Walters?

He was in the same unit and according to his mother "The fighter that they thought was Jessica Lynch was Donald. When he was found he had two stab wounds in the abdomen, and he'd been shot once in the right leg and twice in the back. And he'd emptied his rounds of ammunition. Just like they (my note: "they" being the Washington Post after being fed the story by the Pentagon) said Jessica had done at first."

And to correct you, Ms Lynch was awarded a medal. In addition to the Purple Heart and POW medal she also received the Bronze Star, the US fourth (?) highest military honor. Yet by her own admission in her interview with Dianne Sawyer, she was knocked unconscious when the vehicle she was in crashed, and didn't recover consciousness until she was in hospital.

The movie is soooo over-patriotic that I don't think any non-American will be able to watch to the end... I almost wanted to go out and hang an old shoe on the nearest tree.
