is there a way to protect myself

A member wrote us he forgot he had a membership he thought he canceled. I checked he had been a member since march and the last time he was in was March . He asked if there is anything we could do. So I wrote that I would send him a company check for the 7 months. I am waiting to hear back from him, is there a way to protect myself if he decides to also charge back after getting and cashing the check?

maybe contact the biller and ex0plain the situation and ask them to refund the money so it doesn't come up as a chargeback?? i wouldnt trust sending someone a check and then assume they wouldn't chargeback..

Offer him a free lifetime membership. That usually shuts them up.

I checked he joined in march and the last times he logged in were in Mar. He is telling the truth and he came to us instead of just charging back.

Glad everything worked out and you did the right thing.

I have a dilemma, I was checking out a sponsor site and signed up for a six day trial membership. Logged on maybe three times for viewing and the last time to cancel my membership within the six days, there was no clear way to cancel so I used their support form for credit card problems but couldn?t remember what cc I used but sent the form mail anyway. I also sent a reply to the email address that sent my membership info to cancel. The company never sent an email back to confirm.

Paying my cc (visa) bill, I notice a 4.95 charge and a 29.95 charge from the same company. I called my credit card company to stop any future billings from this company and forward the email. I was given the option to get a credit for the 29.95 and still do but declined the offer from my visa company as of yet.

I know 30.00 dollars isn?t much but after another email to the company and no response, I am thinking of doing a charge back. Hell, I was thinking of sending traffic to this company (not much but my ratios are good) and if this is the way they treat customers, I think they deserve a charge back and no traffic.

Am I a jerk for thinking this way?
