To everyone that fights against gun control, thank you.

Infant shot on I-25 fighting for her life

COMMERCE CITY - An 8-month-old girl who was shot last month as she rode with her family on Interstate 25 survived after a bullet entered the right side of her head, shattered her skull and exited through the other side.

Part of the infant's skull was replaced with cadaver bones, a family friend said Thursday at a news conference here.

Deputies have not identified a motive for the shooting, and the family has remained anonymous out of safety concerns.

The friend, Rachelle Kalkofen, spoke out to plead for witnesses to come forward. She identified the baby only as Viviana.

The child, who remains in critical condition, also has suffered a stroke, Kalkofen said.

"She's obviously in pain, at times upset," she said. "But she's definitely a fighter."

Adams County Sheriff's spokesman Louis Dixon III said investigators have very little to go on. So far, all they have is that the family thought they saw a small red car behind their Honda Civic when the gunfire erupted on Jan. 23.

The family had been at dinner in Northglenn, Kalkofen said. Viviana was with her mother and two older sisters - ages 6 and 4 - in the Honda, which was driven by the youngsters' aunt. Viviana was in a child-safety seat next to the window in back.

In a car ahead was Viviana's father, a brother and another man.

They were on I-25 heading south near U.S. 36 when they first realized something was wrong.

"Both women in the vehicle heard a pop and thought they had run over something," Kalkofen read from the family's statement. "Moments later they heard a second sound.

"Both adult women thought that one of the children had struck a window with a toy or another object. They noticed a strong smell and decided they were going to pull over."

Viviana's mother climbed into the back seat as one of the older children shouted that the baby was bleeding.

"As her mother climbed into the back seat, the windows began to shatter, and she yelled for all to duck because they were being shot at," Kalkofen read.

The driver turned on her hazard lights, honked the horn and drove to the center divider while she called 911 on her cell phone. She stopped the car between 58th Avenue and Interstate 70.

The right rear passenger window was shot at least three times. One bullet exited the left rear window, and another went through the windshield. Viviana's mother was shot several times in the forearm.

"It's the family's belief that certainly there must have been witnesses," Kalkofen said.

People that do shit like that are going to get guns one way or another. If you take away the right to bear arms it will only put innocent, responsible gun owners at risk against criminals.

And I hope the baby recovers...a truly sad story.

Wow, what an intelligent argument... from the moron with the name HighOnAcid. Tell me you still feel this way when the 15 year old gangbanger shoots you for $20 at the ATM machine, and he got the gun from his dad's arsenal. So you're telling me he'd still have the gun regardless?

The argument you're making is one of the furthest right-wing to the extreme, hardly one of any intelligence.

I am a firm belive in gun owner's rights. I lived only a block away from the people involved in the incident discussed in that news story. After that, I was 100%, irrevocably for removing ALL restrictions on gun ownership except those that prevent violent felons from possessing guns.

http://www.gunowners.org/op0215.htm

But I dont understand the topic of this post. Is the thread starter for or against gun control. I dont see how that news story makes a good arguement against gun control... yet the poster is thanking the people who fight against it? Maybe my sense of humor is dull tonight and I am not reading the sarcasim correctly?

Anyway, I hope they kid gets better and they should hang the guy who did it up by his balls.

I have a baby of my own but I am definately pro gun its too bad the idiots of the world have to ruin it for responsible gun owners like me. I need a gun in case someone trys to break into my house (its my constitutional right) to protect MY child. How did this happen (I am always suspicious when a child gets a gun (it shouldnt be that easy!) There are locking gun cases which you can put out of reach!! The criminals will always have guns like they have thier drugs (which are illegal). So making guns illegal only puts good people at risk. In this day and age of terorrists and all that shit Im not giving up my gun. The day they take away the right to bear arms is the day we start to lose all our personal freedoms (which constitutional right will be next? why not take away free speech too)

We already had a similar topic few weeks ago.

All the pro guns people simply say: We need them to defend ourselfs. If they are illegal the criminal still can buy them everywhere and we arent allowed to have them.

Good point, exactly proves how fucked up your country is. The US is so flooded with guns that now theres no way back anymore. Make them illegal and you still can buy them on every corner.

People in other countries where guns never were legal in the first place dont have to defend their homes/stores with guns because the criminal most like doesnt have a gun.

Who said only guns can kill people? Who said only guns can cause accidents?

If that's the case, then I would expect all drunken drivers to be executed.

Knives can kill....a fist can kill...a baseball bat can kill. Hell, even an 10incher can kill (a tight pussy that is). lol

The point is that media is playing your mind man. There are many other sad stories than that one.

But since it is America, you get to say what you want to say.

The topic of the post (which obviously gun nuts such as yourself do not have the IQ to comprehend) is thanks to you, the NRA, and everyone that fights any type of gun legislation shit like this is becoming more commonplace.

Understand now?

You dont live where I do, I notice you put your location as Amsterdam, come live here for a month it is quite different and you will want to buy a gun. I seriously doubt the guy who shot the baby had a legal gun. They need to focus on getting illegal guns off the street and putting losers like this in jail!

As sad as the story truly is, I have to agree with what you said. The problem with crime is it takes a criminal to commit one. Making it illegal to won a gun isn't going to stop someone already willing to kill. That's like thinking speeding laws will keep him from driving fast if he's being chased after the crime.

The only way to stop gun violence is to keep guns out of the country entirely. We can;t do that with drugs or even people for god's sake so what makes anyone think we'd keep guns out? Our sadly biased media doesn't cover the events when a legal gun owner is able to stop a crime from happening by having a gun either. You can find news like that if you know where to look but it's not easy.... and our lazy sound byte culture forms it's opinions on the 10 minutes of news they get per day - very sad.

So all that said, I'm not saying I have a position on guns one way or the other (although I do)... my point is that if you are going to talk about legal policy, you should think about what serves the greatest good REALISTICALLY.

There's no reason to own guns in today's society. Statistically, you're more likely to shoot yourself with your own gun than to "protect" yourself from anyone else. That fact alone says that gun owners are statistically irresponsible.

What does this have to do with gun control?
You think making guns illegal will stop people from shooting each other?

Listen Einstein, if your govenment wouldnt have allowed guns in the first place then this wouldnt needed. Dont you get it?

Fuck, if every fucking criminal can (and will) buy a rocket launcher on every corner just like they can buy guns in America then yes i will have a fucking rocket launcher as well to protect my home. Luckily enough i live in a country where being free doesnt mean you can buy a gun in every other shop. We usually dont have to fear criminals with guns. The chance i ever gonna see a gun pointed at me in Holland is very very small.

Guns don't kill people....people kill people.
Take away the guns, they'll use knives.
Take away the knives, they'll use rocks.
Take away the rocks, we'll be floating in space.

None of my guns have ever killed anyone. They just sort of lay there, looking dead. I haven't killed anyone either.....yet.

Honestly, the next idiot who comes with arguments like this will be hunted down and beaten to death by me with a KEYBOARD.
But it fucking makes sense. cars kill people and so do guns. why outlaw guns?

What does this system need?

Guns or cars to go work?

Fuck. Stupid being stupid. Cars are needed, its a primary need for human beings...guns are not. Not at all.

Car deaths are accepted, why? Because our system simply wouldnt work without cars. Our system would work damn well tho without guns.

Fuck, i cant understand im explaining this...are people really that thick?

Fuck, if every fucking criminal can (and will) buy a rocket launcher on every corner just like they can buy guns in America then yes i will have a fucking rocket launcher as well to protect my home. Luckily enough i live in a country where being free doesnt mean you can buy a gun in every other shop. We usually dont have to fear criminals with guns. The chance i ever gonna see a gun pointed at me in Holland is very very small.
Actually there is some truth to what you are saying but the guns are already here. I live in a place where there are such things as home invasion where criminals have come into houses and robed them while people were still in them sometimes even raped or killed them. The police aren't protecting people. To be honest it would be better if they legalized certain drugs here (I am going to hear it from someone I know) because it would lower crime. I believe this to be true from looking at England and Amsterdam. I will be the first to give up my gun once I feel safe and the criminals no longer have guns! I am moving also. Maybe to Canada I hear they can sleep with thier doors unlocked at night!

Hell yeah, there are times i`d rather be doing other things, than driving down the freeway.

I do believe I once saw stats indicating that more people are killed each year on the freeway, than in the vietnam war... Same goes for guns.

You can`t stop a criminal from having a gun, but you can stop law abiding citizens from owning a gun.

Reminds me, I better pack my shit for a pig hunt tomarrow.

Did a champagne cork smoke a family member, VDay? Seems like a lot of pent up anger geared towards alcohol seeing how you're posting it in a gun control debate/topic/moot conversation....one or the other.

why isn't mouthwash banned? it's not a necessity to daily life.
and check it, look at the advice they give about mouthwash, LOCK IT UP! Maybe if guns would be treated as mouthwash, there would be less accidents.

It's harder to kill someone with a knife or a rock. Sure attacks might not go down, but fatalities would.

How bout a rebuttal instead of the cop out "idiot" reply. That response is directly relevant to your car argument. Just admit it, anyone who doesn't believe in what you do, is a fool.
