Why is this a bad thing? Doesn't it mean it covers people that have servers through them instead of getting sued?

Well, we're under siege by the content patent scammers, the hosting providers are under siege from the SCO's of the world.

It's a business decision.

It's a bad thing because SCO's claims are full of shit, and they're eventually going to have their ass handed to them in court. It's like Acacia, except that SCO is even more full of shit and their claims are baseless.

Looks like they're going to lose some customers over this, and rightly so:

I agree, for server apps FreeBSD is where it's at... but it's the principle of it. One day Linux will be at the level FreeBSD is at now, and it'll be under the GPL, rather than the BSD licence.

BSD license isnt THAT bad.. i think it boils down to whether you're writing software and including other code sniplets or not.

If you're using the machine as a server and running shit like apache, mysql, etc etc then you'll be just fine and the license wont have any impact.

We run FreeBSD so we could care less about SCO's false claims. And its doubtful that Linux will become as stable as FreeBSD. Linux is good because of the number of developers working on it and because its accepted as the defacto un*x replacement, so of course for the newest hardware it gets drivers first and even support from mainstream companies, but it would take a lot of work, alot of hole patching, and rethinking alot to get it to FreeBSD's level. Although gentoo is quite nice, give me FreeBSD anyday.

There already is.. it's called University of Berkly. Any claims would have to be taken up with them first.
