It's hard, but it's not impossible.
You don't need to have contacts and know people, but they help.
You don't have to have thousands of dollars to get started, but it puts you ahead of most of the other people entering at the same time as you.

The only question determining whether you'll make the money you want to in this business or not is...

My business is making well over what it was 6 months ago. My main income is promoting cam sponsors but I've hired 3 designers in the last couple of months as well as someone to do odd jobs for me with the money I've made from that.

Got a slew of paysites ready to launch when I get around to it but they really aren't my thing. Like I told you before, I like designing in notepad.
