Georgia had problems like that until they got the lottery. Now most of the schools there rock. The only real problem areas are the ones with high concentrations of hispanics because there are so many moving in every month that they just can't build schools fast enough to keep up with the increasing population.

They have even cut physical education I was told by my cousin (a teacher in Santa Cruz). I was amazed.

So the kids even get their exercise cut back. That should do wonders for the obesity problem as well.

its so bad here, they had to knock off 17 days of the school year to make it cheaper.

more than 1/2 a month wiped off of education because we simply cannot house or feed, or teach this many kids.

The number of school days has been decreased by 17 days for many students in LAUSD.
To accommodate for limited space and for additional cost savings, LAUSD has a ?multi-track? system that keeps most schools operating year-round and shortens the school year. Students in these ?multi-tracks? receive 17 fewer school days of education.

Yes...it concerns me. I have been a long time advocate for changing the way that schools are funded and have contacted my former congressman multiple times about this subject. The primary funding for our schools nation wide comes from County property taxes...with some subsidiary funding from State taxes...first and foremost. The Federal Government does not play a primary role. This leaves Counties that do not have a good tax base at the bottom of the totem pole. Its pretty twisted when you think about that in relation to minimum wage (6-7 $ an hour) and the state of the education system, among other things.

I can't wait to see the stats on the increase in the homeless population in a few years.

Thats pretty much the answer we get here in California.

They are closing hospitals and clinics here becasue of over population mostly brought on by the 3 million illegals here abusing hospitals etc.

Last year when they announced the enormous cutbacks to the school system in LA it took everyone by surprise. I can't believe no one voiced outrage that we could spend money on $1,000,000 bombs to drop on dirt but we had to fire teachers for our children on a mass scale.

I think you are going to far in placing the blame on the immigrants Fletch. The flipside of cheap labor is cost savings to businesses and consumers that ends up redistributed back into the economy.

Thanks Soul Rebel, this is my point. Instead of pointing the finger at mexicans and helathcare you/they/we should take a closer look at the way money is frivolously spent on bullshit.

Nice, well I sometimes get tired of hearing people who no longer live here talk about issues I am dealing with.

I am preparing info for hard copy letters I am mailing to my city and state about these issues, unlike some I try and do things.

In fact, just a few years ago I lived in a building and the managers were some russian couple, very nice and clean people.

They had been saving up and bought a house and moved. A month later there was a welfare investigator knocking on everyone's door asking questions. Turns out they were lying about income and daddy was illegally here or something, and so I figure they got busted.

And I recall the dad being a security guard or something. I bet he got paid under the table too, as do most in that situation. So mommy collected welfare for the kids and saved up til they could get off and buy a place.

I remember when I was serving in the apache base we had a Chinook that flyed to transfer a single table and few chairs from north greece to south for a speech some officer was about to give. You can imagine how much that flight costed.

All you have to do is steal a shopping cart and spend all day digging through trash cans. Tax free, no % taken out, and paid in cash. There is even this chick just about my age that I see locally ALL the time. She's looks about late 20 something, maybe early 30's, decent looking blonde chick always out with her cart gathering recyclables. But when you get close you can she that she is kind of dirty and I wonder if she is homeless. That and the beggars who fight over the freeway exits.

They had been saving up and bought a house and moved. A month later there was a welfare investigator knocking on everyone's door asking questions. Turns out they were lying about income and daddy was illegally here or something, and so I figure they got busted. And I recall the dad being a security guard or something. I bet he got paid under the table too, as do most in that situation. So mommy collected welfare for the kids and saved up til they could get off and buy a place. bad idea

I remember when I was serving in the apache base we had a Chinook that flyed to transfer a single table and few chairs from north greece to south for a speech some officer was about to give. You can imagine how much that flight costed. Wanna talk about supplies? My base had paper supplies for printers for the next 2000 years. Not sure if that's funny or sad.
