LOL, Big Brother comes to the EU to snoop and sniff. I'm surprised the Europeans went for this deal.

WASHINGTON - U.S. and European officials signed an agreement Friday for sharing information on airline passengers.

The agreement, which takes effect immediately and is to last 3 1/2 years, gives U.S. authorities access to information about passengers on flights flying to or from the 25 European Union countries. The information will be checked against U.S. databases to determine if any travelers are terrorist threats.

The data ? called passenger name records ? include credit card numbers and contact information such as phone numbers and addresses.

The agreement also allows the U.S. government to use the data as part of an anti-terrorism program that would use personal information to assign threat levels to all airline passengers.

The program, called the Computer-Assisted Passenger Prescreening System, or CAPPS II, has been delayed because some U.S. airlines refuse to turn over passenger data for testing. Several airlines ? including Northwest, JetBlue and American ? have been criticized for sharing such data with the government in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terror attacks without the knowledge of passengers.

U.S. officials said in March they would issue a security directive "in a few months" that would force airlines to turn over the data.

Exactly. Then the MATRIX system can tie it all together into a neat little report about your entire purchases from anywhere you've been.

note, ALL passengers are given a rating.

Thus, hints towards that even though you are not a threat, you will be looked at, your background searched, BEFORE anything.

Yeah, that's lame... If they were just checking for criminals or suspected terrorists i could understand it. But this is a complete freedom violation.

And the fucked part Fletch this is what they are admitting publicly. God only knows where else the data is going and what databases its being referenced against to snoop into everyone's background.

The part I have a problem with is your data floating around in all these systems that so many people have access to. If you have inside access to this volume of info you cold really go to town on someone and take over their identity completely.

Credit cards have NOTHING to do with a persons "back ground" or if they are a terrorist or not.

I am willing to believe data such as CC numbers would be used ultimately to pin someone even for "being in the wrong place" at the right time, or even simple coincedencies can lead to unjust things.

There are Americans sitting in jail right now that have ZERO fucking ties to terrorism but they are sitting in jail until they get cleared, not sure what America that is, but its not the one I want to live in.

Did you see that poor guy on TV yesterday that was stuck in prison for 22 years. He had been charged for murder he didn't committ, and finally they were able to prove he was innocent with DNA. I think it was something like this where he was incriminated by supposedly being somewhere close to the crime when it happened.

Happens all the time.

There are thousands of innocent people being held in Americas prison.

Most of them are the poor who have no chance of defence against the brutal system of pats on the backs, DA's, prosecutors, and the moral-less defense teams of the world.

It happens everyday, and unfortunately, most dont care, because "its not me"
