For those of you who work at home, does it sometimes feel you have no life?

I work at home, and all my friends have either day jobs or school. I find myself sleeping in every single day. I need something to get my ass out of bed, and even get out of the house. I'm thinking get up and go out for a coffee or something, but still kind of lonely. All I do is work and my life is getting really boring.

What do you guys do to kill the boredom/lonliness that comes from working at home full time?

Discuss.

dude.... I live literally across the street from one of the sweetest beaches on the fucking planet, on freaking Maui, and I have no life either. I work constantly. I almost never see the outside world unless I'm going to the grocery store to get some more fucking stamps.

so I don't wanna hear it.

Most of my friends have dayjobs also or are in school. Monday through friday I work my ass off at home. I figure being lonely and not having my friends around is a good thing or else i would get nothing done. I make plans for the weekends and go out to get away from what ive done all week. Working out more when I need a break during the week has started to kill some boredom also. I dont really mind though most of the time I want to be on my computer making money...

been looking for that golden opportunity for a long damn time. It's a unicorn. It doesn't exist.

Someday in the way distant future I'll captain a boat or something though, and leave this shit in the dust. (after my house is free and clear though, in about 90 years)

I kinda know how you feel...

This is what I plan on doing...

If you got the means rent a place out.

Find an office,place or something.

Setup a schedule commute everyday... to that location

And you'll miss home

I used to have to stare at a wall for hours on end and had to waste so much energy trying to "look busy" at my old secretary jobs, that sitting around the house ain't shit..I haven't been to work since 2002 and I'm loving every minute of it..

Everytime I get down, I just remember that I can just go get in the bed and sleep it off.

I'm going back to school in the fall. Took some time off to webmaster full time and take care of some other projects that have been collecting dust. It just sucks having money and freedom but no one to share it with.

If I get an outside job, it needs to be something outdoors. I'm sick of ending every summer still white, lol.

I like working at home in the morning, then at the office around lunchtime to the end of the day. Then sometimes still at the office at night or back at home.

The secret is to not have a completely fixed routine. Have some variety. Some days just take off completely and have fun. You have to get out and about or you can really end up living like a total hermit from runnig online businesses.

Also try to actually meet your online buddies.

this is exactly why I will never understand these people who (supposedly) have millions, like quiet, and stay in this business. What the fuck is THAT about?!

guaranteed, if I ever came into a million bucks, I'd be sipping gin & tonics on the fucking beach for the rest of my days. Fuck work.

there is no other explaination for that other than pure greed.

Thought about doing that, but it's not really worth it for me. One of my friends has his own office and I was talking to him today about possibly letting me use some office space in exchange for some web work.

I volunteered at a museum (just a few hours one day a week) before I moved. Recently I've been trying to go to a really open-minded church (I have told the people who ask what I do for a living that I run adult websites and they hardly bat an eye) but it's still too early in the morning for me. I joined one of their evening group things though and that helped a lot with the whole isolated-working-at-home feelings. It feels really good to talk to other people about something meaningful and totally non-work related.

it's hard bro, thats why i go into an office. The only way to wake up on time for me is if i know i'm going to catch shit from someone. Perhaps you could have a friend or boss call you in the morning to wake you up ? Do what you gotta do

Having a regular job doesn't necessarily mean one has a life. It just means they have to work around a bunch of idiot drama queens and it takes up a lot of their time.

You can tell when I'm bored because I post here and on other message boards a lot more often. Today, for example, with the exception of the 2 hours I spent cleaning the house, I have been on GFY for the past 10 hours.

believe me, I've tried to make that happen, but it just ain't that easy. I got dozens of harddrives here that I need to access, a bare minimum of 4 systems that I need within arms reach, phones, fax,..... no matter how hard I try or how much I spend trying to make it happen, I'm still locked in this studio.

I would always be coming back here for something.

There is no escape.

This happened to me for about 3 months once I graduated. I went insane working at home. My remedy was to get an office. Seperate your work life from home life, if you can do it at home, then great for you. I couldn't, I had to actually get out of my home and get an office in a downtown office building and since then I've been able to seperate the two lifestyles a lot better. Granted you now have 2 rents to pay.

For a while, I had this exact same problem. It can get pretty bad locking yourself in your little dungeon for a dozen hours a day, every day (weekends included) when working on a big project. You can start to go a little mental if you let it get to you.

The simple solution is to just go out. If you're like me you need a REASON to go out, then generate a reason. I decided my reasons would be to work out daily (necessitating a trip to the gym), and 'life' outside the business just sort of spontaneously grows. It's pretty easy when you come to the realization that "Shit, I'm working too damn hard. I need to go out and enjoy some of this bling before I get too old to!"

The real problems start when you've developed all these outside influences and rediscovered the wonders of the external world, and work suddenly picks up and you're required to be chained to a desk again.

I work at home, but my problem isn't loneliness, it's that I have so many friends they are always over at my place and wanting me to hang out with them. They all work different shifts, so as one is leaving to go home and shower for work, another is just getting off work and wants to go out to a movie. Or I throw a party on Friday, and on Sunday, everyone is coming back over to get the shit they left when they were drunk. I get carried away in my social life and forget to work. I've had to start telling my friends to go home or not to come over in the first place just so I can get my shit done.

Now, I just let those friends who help me with both work AND housecleaning come over. The rest, only on the parties..call me on the phone if you need to visit. Having a social life is great, but unless they want to support my ass, they need to give me time to work.

Man I don't know what you guys are talking about, EVERYBODY who I know that works a 9-5 office job just dreams about being able to work from home or to even make their own schedule. Sometimes it does make it a little harder to be social but if you were at an office job who would you be hanging out with....the tards at your office? I go to the gym and take a swim in the late morning 3-4 times a week, does the trick for me. Just remember how much better you have it than 95% of the people who are in the rat race.

First off..I have the same problems. Many days people are at my place all the time. It's hard to separate play and business, especially being I work with a lot of the same people I socialize with.

Second...your sig rocks.

True, but the problem is that all your friends work during the weekdays... and going out by yourself, is not much better than working at home by yourself...

hehe, I built my office in the basement, so no windows with any view. Was thinking of turning one of the spare bedrooms into an office, but I'll die of heat in the summer. The basement is so nice and coooool
