:2cents Yet another sign that this election is pretty much in the bag

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14660.html

Networks are developing contingency plans for how to fill all the hours they'll be on air in the event the race is effectively decided before most Americans have finished dinner.

I refuse to believe anything like that is happening until polls have actually reported rather than exit polling.

That sucks.
I started to read that article and stopped when it mentioned "blowout". That's the type of shit that gets the worst of the worst elected.

Only reason I'm voting is because I can.
Only reason I'm voting for the younger white guy is because I dislike him the LEAST (the younger white boy being Obama).

I used to like being involved in being able to vote, hoping my best for "some" candidate. That's all gone. Once again, I get to vote for the one I dislike the least. -- the white guy... the young one.

You refuse to believe that networks are making contingency plans until the polls have closed?
Also, I wasn't aware that there was exit polling data available on network plans.

Last night, in the 7th inning, I thought the Rays were going to the World Series. I think the worst thing we [Democrats] can do is become complacent and think this thing is actually over.

No, no. I refuse to put any stock in the idea that it will be a blow out. I refuse to raise my expectations so high. I also refuse to believe the exit polls as I did in the '04 election.

Everyone already knows Obama is going to win by a landslide, including John Mccain.

Point :

There could have been a huge rush of late registers to vote.
There may be a lot of people who liked Obama but never got their shit together to
vote in the primary, but they got it together this month so they can vote.

I don't think the same can happen for McCain, I think his voters were mostly already
in the system during the primary. He's not winning any new people.

So it looks like this is in the bag.

Dems will be far from complacent. They're much more enthusiastic about this election than the republicans.

Obama has put together the largest get out the vote effort in political history, there will be record turnout.

IMO it'll be nice to have another election like 1988 or 1996 where we practically know the day before who won...as opposed to 2000 when we didn't know until 36 days later.

I, for one, think I'm going to unplug my TV and block my browser from visiting any news or political related sites for at least a month starting on Nov 5. I've had enough of this.

i would not be counting any chickens before they hatched in this election in particular -
1)the Bradley Effect and 2)young voters who are overwhelmingly for Obama never get their lazy asses out to vote, they talk a great game on the Net tho

1) The Bradley effect is pretty much urban legend. It's just something they have to talk about on cable news to fill 24 hours.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/art...lective_m.html

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/...5653453.column

2) The young voters are the reason Obama won the nomination, they came out in record numbers. It's hard to imagine a scenario where they would vote for him in the primary and then stay at home for the general.
Also, I'm sure all of the major pollsters are including variables like turnout in their predictions.

Look at it this way, the most standard "likely voter" scenario that is standard practice in polling, is to assume the electorate will be the same as it was 4 years ago. 4 years ago was the highest republican turnout in history. (for alot of reasons, but mostly the gay marriage referendums on the ballot in alot of states)
Even the polls using that model show Obama up overall and up in the battleground states.

This is going to be a depressed turnout year for republicans and a record turnout year for democrats.

It wouldn't be right for Obama/Biden or any of their surrogates to start dancing in the streets now, you guys are right about that. I, however, can dance all I want....just like when I said the primary was pretty much over after Texas and Ohio, and I was right about that......alot of folks were trying to spin scenarios of how Hillary could win, but it really was over.
At that point Hillary couldn't catch up in delegates.

At this point in the general, there are no more debates, conventions, VP picks, or anything left really to shift the momentum. McCain is way behind in the polls and almost out of resources, while Obama is starting to advertise in some very red states, has bought a half hour on the networks Wednesday night, and I can't imagine a scenario where that doesn't help him in the polls, because he's very telegenic and a gifted orator.....and he'll be saturating the airwaves in all of the battleground states from now until election day because he has pretty much unlimited funds to do so.
Just think about the term "battleground state", that used to mean Florida, Ohio, and Michigan. (purple states) Now McCain has to play defense in North Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri (red states). It's getting really ugly for the republicans at this point.

Something outside of McCain's control could happen (terrorist attack, Russia invades Georgia for real, Iran invades Iraq, etc) but those things have a fraction of a percent chance of happening, and even then it's not guaranteed that they would help him, what with Colin Powell rumored to be endorsing Obama this weekend and beefing up his foreign policy/national security bona fides even more.

If you look at Odrama?s major sponsors, you?ll see he has a full list of bankers and other behind the scenes elite that wants to control the world. They are the ones who decide who?s gonna be in the office. They control all voting stations and all electronic voting machines. Odrama has long been chosen because he?s the most corrupt and evil of them all, plus he?s the easiest to buy. They wouldn?t be able to buy people like Ron Paul who was sincere about helping the country and the people. Hence he was booted out of the race early on. Without illuminati influence, antichrist Odrama would never get this far. So yeah, the election has been in the bag long ago. Reports from the media controlled by the elite are also purposefully manufactured in such a way so dumb ones believe Odrama won presidential debates and is the messiah. And the dumb ones ate it with the shoes on.

You guys have to factor in early voting too. Even if McCain catches up, early voting has dug him a hole that's awfully tough to get out of. It'll take a major event to change this election. As someone on TV said the other day, outside of Bin Laden being caught with a cell phone with Obama's number on speed dial, this race is over.

After 8 years of definitive failure after failure and compounded epic failure by Republicans you got to be a complete fucking idiot and deusch bag to even consider voting Republican this election year.

There are some kids around here breaking McCain posters on peoples front yards and I applauded them last night. I live in a really conservative part of California probably the only Conservative bastion left in California and it's stunning to see many front yards with McCaine posters on them.

It proves how fucking retarded people are on the Conservative side.

Dispite the last 8 years, the over 1 Million Iraqi's dead, the number of American soldier's dead, the illegal wire tapping, the utter destruction of the economy, the rampant healthcare problem in America there are quite simply some really fucking dumb ignorant and retarded American voters out there that will click the McCain button...

I goto question if them people even have a right to breath anymore while being just fortunate enough to even remember taking a breath.
They disgust me and are dismissed as the dumbest of the dumb in the world.

For me it is not even a matter of Obama. If McCain wins the Republican machine will continue business as usual, more debt, more failure, more war's...

The idea that a Republican party will change just because McCain is in office is completely naive. Utterly naive it's not even worth a second thought.
Shit will truly remain the same.

After millions of dead people on America's hands due to ignorant Conservative agenda jeesus... Fuck this...

Any pornographer voting for Republicans this season may as well order themselves a special bullet that should pass through there brain and do the world a favor.

The pollsters are actually taking that into account and including cell phones in their polling calls.

I beg to differ. The polls showed Bush ahead at this point in the last two elections. Both Gore and Kerry made a late push and got their numbers up, but it wasn't enough. It was never "in the bag" the last two elections.

I doubt Israel will attack Iran. If they did, it would be with our full knowledge and support. They know they can't survive in that region without our backing.

The media is delusional on this. They've got this massive sweaty hardon for Obama that keeps them from seeing reality. McCain and the RNC are about to dump a massive shitload of ad money they've been husbanding and that will tighten the race up quick (Obama had to outspend McCain 3-to-1 and have the financial system implode in order to get the few point lead he has now, even in this phenomenally shitty year for Republicans). And if McCain loses Virginia, I'm going to have to check that I haven't slipped into a parallel universe.

Also, this election year has taught me that this country is still far more racist than I had imagined (lots of latinos, rednecks, and even old jewish grandparents admitting publicly they won't vote Obama solely because he's black).

I hope Obama wins (lesser of two evils), but I would bet on McCain at this point.

Well then tell me how much you want to bet. Anything up to $20K and I'll take your action.

I'll give anyone who wants to bet 3:1 if they bet McCain. So bet $100 and get $300 back if he wins. Come get some

I'll take epass, moneybookers or neteller
