one of the toughest hikes in Banff National Park (rated extreme on trailpeak.com)

it was my brother's b-day on Wednesday, and he wanted to do something a little different. has anyone hiked this mountain? i've hiked to the top of Whistler mountain every day this summer (as well as a ton of other hikes over the past couple of years), but this was a HIKE. all the loose shale rock after getting past the tree line was very tough, especially coming back down. I didn't take pics of it (too scared lol) but there are sections of the trail that narrow to only 2 or 3 feet wide, with 3000 foot drops on either side, covered in loose rock. on top of that, crazy winds always trying to blow you off the ledges. anyway, here are a couple of images i snapped (not that great, but i'm amazed i took any):

no equipment other than hiking boots and poles (first time i've used hiking poles). i was glad we did it, and also glad when we'd finally made it back down

Haven't hiked that one personally, but I'm very familiar with the view, I miss that view every single day.

It definetely sounds like you have a fun time enjoying life! I'd love to go hiking soon. I haven't been in forever.

yeah, i've hiked Sulfur around 200 hundred times, and Tunnel at least 100, but never done this. those hikes are a total joke compared to this. i leave Edmonton on monday, and we are contemplating attempting Cascade or Castle mountain on our way back to Whistler...

and yep, it's the classic Banff view, on every postcard

hehe, for sure.

i've read up on Cascade and it sounds not too bad, unless you want to make the peak.

The most popular route to the summit of 2,998-meter Cascade Mountain is along the southern ridge of the amphitheater wall. It is a long scramble up scree slopes-made more difficult by a false summit; it should be attempted only by experienced scramblers.

i lived in banff for several years, awesome place. i've moved to Whistler which is also amazing, and has many things Banff doesn't... but still, i sort of miss Banff, it's just so damn beautiful.
