What places to go in Europe when on Vacation?

Planing a Europe trip in April with my wife. Never been there, and not sure where to go exactly..

Im wondering if a package deal is better, or if the U-rail stuff is the way to go?

We plan to go to London first to start the trip because we have a wedding there. But from there we dont know what to do next..

Considering Amsterdam (im considering that one) France, Italy, Spain, and maybe Greece.

If anyone has been there before, let me know what cities in these countries are a must see, and if I am missing a country let me know. Some people are saying Greece is over-rated, and it would be best to use that time in Italy..

Also if anyone could help, recomend a U-rail package over the traditional tour stuff or not.. Those traditional tours seem like they are for old people, but whatever the case I want to make the best of this trip.

European vacations are a blast. There is so much to see. London is a great starting point, because they speak the same language and you can get over the jetlag before you move on.

Where you go depends on what you like, countrysides, or big cities with museums, etc. I would recommend avoiding extended stays in places where it's really expensive to stay, like Paris. Although Paris has the best museums and great food (and unlike what a lot of people say, food in Paris can be really cheap.)

Also Switzerland is really expensive and the food isn't that great. You can get a great Alps experience in Bavaria Germany/Salzburg Austria for much less. I recommend Rome and Florence Italy, it's a blast and affordable.

More later...

Renting a car in Europe is cheap and easy, just make sure you get the michelan maps and also familiarise yourself with the road signs. Some places have the signs for the exit after the exit.

But with your own car, you can move at your own pace and go to the places you want to go.

If you go to Germany I have a buddy there -- runs world-of-models.com and world-of-nudes.com --

Do you know Richie? He runs posterbabes and a new paysite w/ Ginger Spice -- he's in London I think -- damn there are cool webmasters all over Europe -- you should hook up with them.

Germany is verry pretty, but depends where you go.Stay away from former East Germany.
South is very nice(Bavaria). But the most
beautiful city is Prague. And cheap too..
Hey beer in restaurant cost you about
40 cents and nice dinner about 2-3 dollars.
Downtown is just unbelievable.
2 years ago i took flight to London,Stayed
there few days but I found it boring. Then took flight from London to Prague(about
one hour) and spent week there.

i've only been to few places in Europe but Italy is a must in my book. Been there twice and might be going back there for a 3rd time this summer. Its a Very Romantic place for a couple traveling. Rome is a must, Florance, Venice, San Marino, Italy Miniature and Vatican are all cool places to check out as well. I would recoomend traveling 1st class on those european trains, its not much more expensive but you get much better cars and seats.

Amsterdam was definatly a cool place, Make sure you try Indonesian food, thats what they're known for. Coffee shops, meuseums, ann frank's house, red light district are all worth it.

My next stop in Europe is Ibiza, Spain. anyone been there ?

U-rail, i dont remember all the specifics about it. But since you're going for 3 weeks and traveling by train i assume, than its well worth it to get either a monthly pass or buy weekly passes that you can use either on most EU countries or certain countries you specify. It saves time buying passes every time and its cheaper for you since you're going to use it a lot. But like i said i think first class is a must there. Oh yeah make sure you dont have heavy luggage. Cuz its a bitch carrying them up the stairs, down the stairs, into the train, out the train.... you get the picture

Well, Let me give you some advice...
While my european travel has been limited to where I went in the military, I have hit a few countries I would go back to.

but first, a word from my sponser...

ok, and now... London was great, if you have never been there before, you can do it all in a day, 2 tops, we hit all the places, grabbed a tube pass, and just went.. a group of 10 of us, and surprisingly we all made it.. Spain is also a must, i spent my time in Seville, and let me tell you, it was awesome.. so much history, and so many old buildings to see. I am not much of an old building person, but I let my camcorder go through 2 tapes getting all kinds of cool stuff.

Turkey was rough, and I think thats getting to far away for you, but it's a very interesting place if you get down near the med, and have the time, there are alot of ruins, and alot of history there... I saw the path Cleopatra took while traveling to her hideaway love shack, and where the christians hid from the romans in a cave thats big and scary to stand on the rim of.. complete with a church inside it..
I'll tell you germany was cool, yet i was only there long enough to run from the plane, to the grocery store, to grab about 1000 bux of beer. but we did see a really cool castle just off base.. looked neat anyways...
Stay away from the middle east... of course, you will... they smell...

sorry to ramble..

This has been quite helpful..
I think I will now go to Germany and scratch Greece.. And the Middle East is out of the fucking question.

Now I just need to figure out a time schedule as to how long I need to stay in the indvidual countries-cities to get the best out of it and not feel rushed.. One of the reasons I am scratching Greece is because it seems off track, and it would take time away from the other closer countries.. But now I need to figure out how many days in each country I should plan.. I heard alrady that I need more than a day in Rome.. In fact Ive been told to try to spend 3 days there, and even in Paris 3 days..

So you got like 3 weeks....

week 1: start in Amsterdam and learn about the way we kicked English and Spanish butt when we ruled the World.
Ask a police man to light your joint and Rent a car for 3 weeks to travel in Europe.
Go to Paris (6 hour drive) and visit the Louvre, Crazyhorse Saloon and that Eifel tower-thing.
Travel to Monaco to see some serious lifestyle ( another 6 hour drive ) and then cross the border to go to Italy. In Italy you can visit Rome and Venice ( it's the same as the well-known hotel) and do some skiing in the Italian mountains and ski to Switserland.

Week 2: Take the boat to the Greek isles Crete and Kos and then back to Athens. From Greece to Turkey to see some Islamic stuf and ride a camel.

Week 3 Take your car back to Amsterdam via Austria and Germany and meet the people from all the countries you have just visited and get drunk before you get back in the plane, because all the English will be. :rolleyes

Note: If the price of gazoline was not that high in Europe (4 x US) we all would drive "Vipers" here....

Deserted place during the time you are traveling to Europe: Spain, not even bullfights...

What you absolutely should do: Leave your wife home

Prague is a great city.
But you can´t miss the great country of Denmark, I think we were the first country to legalize porn so it could be kind of a pilgrim trip! yoy know like muslims go to mecca.
We have fine culture and are the home country of H.C. Andersen, Kronborg castle from Hamlet. We also have Tivoli one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. http://www.woco.dk/

I also would suggest London, Paris, Praque and Italy (Rome, Florence and Venece).

Hehe. I can't afford to go to Europe these days, since dollar is going up to the sky (and I don't see a US check for months).

Btw, I'm trying to go the mountains at the south of our country (in 7/7 or 7/8) for a week. The cities are formed by Italian and German immigrants, with architecture, habits and food. I hope the travel agency has gotten the tickets and the hotel reservation. I'll go to there now, its just 100 meters from my home, hehe.
So I'll visit the "Brazil Europe". I could visit a "Swiss" city here in my state, but I have been there some years ago.
I can visit the "little Japan" too by our local metro, hehe.

Btw I have family in Portugal, hope to visit there soon.

yeah, london and amsterdam are really cool!

i would not recomment driving yourself though, if your not used to the way we drive here you can have a hard time...

If i were you i would not go to greece, it's a great country but it's not the normal way to go...

Germany is not really that great, but there capital: Berlin is really kewl.

And then there is Paris offcourse, a real must for all American tourists.

When you still want more i would suggest italy: Venice, Rome those are really romantic places and there is lots to see.

If you want me to check some more stuff out for you just ask me. My icq is in my sig.

regards,

Burby> israel is not part of europe and it'll never be! we don't like facist countries up here.

I'll would like to reccoment Amsterdam, mainly becouse it is so different from the USA (an other kind of freedom)

Further the eastern part of europe (the former sovjet union) is very cheap but most of europe should be cheap for americans since the Euro is very cheap these days.

Berlin and paris are cool as is madrid and rome.. compared to the US europe is very small so you'll be able to see a lot of our cities. if you are interested.

Personally i like ireland most becouse of their realy relaxed attitude

1/No offense but Italy is not an option.
2/Prague, unbeleivable with it being a commies place some time ago but IS A DAMN NICE place. You're like in a living fairy tale there.
3/Ukraine and Crimea ? Alena what did Boneprone do to You? How horrible was it?
4/Paris - ROCKS!
5/Germany - yes. boring.
6/Greece - bullshit.
7/Spain - rocks!
8/Best place of them all - Norwegian fjords are. Never ever seen anything like it. Alps and Swiss stuff are a fucking joke in comparison...

Of what said also should mention, please dont take no offense anyone. If the country is not good for a visit BY NO MEANS it's a bad country....

Also taking a car will be a pain in ass if You got a young wife with You.

Best country to visit ( but not the cheapest !) GERMANY !

Berlin must be the No. city in Europe !
Shopping Duesseldorf beats Paris hands down
but get a car ( not that cheap !) or a Eurorail pass that is the way to go ! Austria

usually i don't mind from posts like this. Someone that has visited Greece most probably considers for rest of his life moving here ;-) I'm not a tourist agency and I want act like that, we have an increased number of some million tourists every year. Few things about Greece, both good and bad as a vacation destination:

- 99.5% officially clean sea waters, with some of the best beaches in the world (2nd position etc..) No water, air polution.
- more than 60 beautiful island with some of the best hotels in europe. Myconos and Paros are the two basic cosmopolitic destinations of celebrities (soulrebel etc)
- Intependent income, a tourist can have great time in Greece since they're plenty places to stay for the money he is willing to pay.
- Sightseeings
- Friendly people
- GREAT KITCHEN!!! hehe
- One of the lower criminality ratios in the world (i think sweden comes 1st as the one with the lowest in europe)
- and so many other things no need to mention.just goto yahoo and type something like holidays in greece or you can ask Susan ;-)

anyway, as already have told, i recommend to visit a single european country and not just pass all of them in a summer like surfing webpages. Every country has its own civilization and traditions. Get to know them, you'll discover many interesting things.

Mostly cause for same or slightly more money You get much better holiday in Spain for example...

As I said though there was no offense. I am pretty picky myself when it always comes to all those "country and their people discussions". I am from Moscow You know, with so much bullshit always said about it You can imagine...

But I truly beleive that if it comes to a question like "Which is best for vacation?" it's not where You can get offended.
I wont if someone says Moscow is a bullshit for vacation cause honestly it is...
Like if You really wanna see something different than Yes , come to Moscow.
But You wanna just have GOOD HOLIDAY REST than "NO" it's not an option...

Don't go to east Germany (e.g. Berlin), only hungry & angry people over there lol. Munich is "very first world" (travel.yahoo.com), and a bit boring too I'd say, but probably the only city to visit in germany. There is a house with 111 different sorts of beer if you like that.

Prague is very nice to relax from all the globalzation speed and stuff, everything so slow and easy going there.

Amsterdam is nice because you could smoke stuff there and the people are very nice and friendly.

Italy is my favorite, the food is SOOO great, mmmhhh.

In Prague the food is very fat and not good. Bad food in spain as well, but nice relaxed people there, and they are cool about porn (terra.es lol). In France they don't speak english. The best english is been spoken in the scandinavian countries such as denmark I believe.
