Let's pay a bounty hacker to shut down terra.es
Seriously with terra.es being such a threat that it is... it's hard to believe that it's still up. Especially when you think about how much leeching is going on w/ terra.es? There are hundreds of sites that would amount to a pile of elephant shit without terra.es. Terra.es has got the whole system fucked up -- webmasters aren't paying for hosting -- we have free sites offering full length movies!
You can set up an account on terra.es -- offer free movies -- and you're up to 100K/day in no time. It's fucked up. Come on, where is the porno mafia when you need it... or is totally free foreign hosting just a sign of the times to come...? We need to keep things under control (within reason). Let's pretend we are all selling gas on the same block at around $2.20/gallon and then some wiseguy opens shop and says, "Hey, FREE GAS when you buy a slurpie!" Fuck the free market -- we go kick that guy's ass until his gas costs $2.20... ------------------ Oliver-Klozov.com Associate / Five-Elements.com Partner (Hosting/Perl Code) / TheFLY.net Webmaster |

Just think what will happen to all those webmasters (word used lightly) when terre closes the adult stuff. They will be back to square one.
If someone knew someone high up in the market and reported them using adult pages to over inflate their market-stock dollar value.................. |

Anyway I'm partially guilty... I trade w/ sites that use terra.es -- because I don't want to get left behind in the traffic game... But 95% of all these movie sites are using copyrighted movies. What the fuck are the movie companies thinking? Why don't they shut down these sites? A lot of people that I trade with will be pissed at me for saying this -- but it's just bad for all of us. What hundreds of thousands of surfers are doing every day amounts to watching porn videos for free that have basically been stolen. I don't need to point out the big movie sites either that have hundreds of thousands of visitors -- all because they offer copyrighted movies for free ;) Information wants to be free -- but NOT YET! ;) Point to point programs like Bearshare suck and are too slow -- the web is still the best way to deliver content! We don't want information to be free -- or we won't make any money...
Anyway I hope this isn't an indicator that everything is going down the shitter -- I think the whole "too much free content" problem can solved if we don't have too many people stealing content -- and we don't have too much totally free, easy-to-find hosting. Blah blah... that's just what I'm thinking... ------------------ Oliver-Klozov.com Associate / Five-Elements.com Partner (Hosting/Perl Code) / TheFLY.net Webmaster [This message has been edited by TheFLY (edited 06-20-2001).] |

Maybe terra.es gets their bandwidth bill quarterly? Or maybe they OWN a huge network and don't care about capacity, either way someone there is gonna figure out what's up soon enough, either when the million dollar bandwidth bill comes or their own network screeches to a hault

Someone once told me that it cost terra.es $25k a day for hosting, but they know exactly what they're doing... and one day they'll redirect all their porn sites to their sponsors... these people are very smart, they're not stupid.

Rice_master,
So basically in a few month's they'll redirect several million non-purchasing, porn surfing, freeloaders to something other than porn and expect them to buy? I'd like to see the company that's gonna pay for that, this isn't early in the game anymore, non-adult companies pay for performance now, no more IPO money floating around for them to blow. Even better, they'll sell it all to spanish companies, millions of English speaking surfers 404'd to spanish websites, I can see the conversions ratio already ![]() ------------------ Audited Sponsor.com $35 Signup/$35 Webmaster Referrals/Free Content |

well, I seriously doubt that there are full movies being served off terra with 5 meg space.
anyway, all this would have ended if terra had put up 1 pop-up - looks like they ARE up to something. I smell fish. |

I have to agree with TheFly on this one. It's getting hard enough to make money as it is. I'm seeing more and more stolen content (aka - public domain) all over the damn place. There are way to many newbies that don't know what the hell they're doing because they're are way too many dipshits submitting galleries to TGPs with huge ads for webmaster programs instead of pay sites. I shit you not, my little insugnificant TGP gets atleast one submission per day with a huge textlink somewhere on the page that reads something like CLICK HERE TO MAKE FAT FUCKING CASH SELLING SMUT!!! and then only a small banner ad to the sponsor just under the 2 dozen stolen pics that litter the fucking page.
In the past three years that I've been dicking around with this shit it's gotten tougher and tougher to convert sales. It's getting to the point where I'd have to go door to door giving hand jobs just to get these cocksuckers to sign up for anything. I'd love for the porn publishers to start chasing these bastards down and start pressing some copyright lawsuits. I would spend no less than 2 hours per day just collecting URLs to aid the cause as well. As far as terra.es goes, they just need to shut that bullshit down and be done with it. Anyway, sorry for the long rant. I just found this site (i don't get out much) so I'll probably be stopping by from time to time now ![]() Ciao, Lamar p.s. Sorry for all the foul language... 1) Terra is owned by the biggest telecom from spain (Telefónica). So they have a fucking big network.
2) They own LYCOS, Tripod and stuff. If one day they start to redirect traffic, they can redirect to english sites, or the Brazilians to the brazilian site, mexicans to their site, colonbians to their site, etc. 3) They'll buy, maybe this year, a huge US content provider (like CNET) 4) Terra is my ISP here in Brazil, and I just love them. Here they don't offer bannerless freehosting, but they do offer 50MB to their clients like me. (and like home.net do). 5) Brazilian Terra allows porn, I asked them. About terra.es I don't know. 6) Did I say they're BIG ? 7) Terra is up today at NASDAQ 8) I hope terra.es contracts someone (ME, hehe) to find and shut down all the porn sites there, if they want to do this. OR 8.1) pop-ups with banners on them, like brazilian terra had for the free members AND a gateway to download big stuff like movies. 9) TERRA, please hire me, I can help you ![]() 10) I love them as my adsl ISP. |

"7) Terra is up today at NASDAQ"
![]() They are definately not a long term investment, not just yet, and not for me anyway. With a chart like TRLY, I would definately avoid any hosting with them. In time they will need to restructure, and the first thing to go, I bet, are their free-hosted adult sites. On the other hand the Terra Lycos network of sites includes Lycos.com, Terra.com, Angelfire.com, ATuHora.com, Gamesville.com, HotBot.com, Invertia.com, Lycos Zone, Matchmaker.com, Quote.com, Rumbo.com, Sonique, Tripod.com, RagingBull.com and Wired News (Wired.com). The network is big enough to support strong growth, but the chart shows otherwise. I tend to like it if the charts goes up instead of down. ![]() They will definately go on a watch list, and with some cash nearby you might want to be ready if they suddenly take a turn for the better. I wouldn't go in for the long haul at least not just yet. For more fun Charts look up Stamps.com - symbol - STMP The only way to plummet faster than stamps.com is to jump from an airplane. ![]() ------------------ ...:::End Of Line:::... ------------------ * uSexFan.com * ICQ : 114683191 |

Ok in response to the "full movies" thing...
Most sites are posting full movies w/ maybe a few terra.es accounts (or other foreign hosts) -- then showing 2-3 parts of a movie per day and updating every few days -- so you get the movies in sequences -- or you can join the AVS "archives" to get the full movies all at once if you want to do that. So these AVS systems are also contributing to the problem -- a lot of these sites that are stealing movies are making a LOT of money by selling memberships to their AVS of illegal content! AND they have partnership programs too! As for the people that are talking about forwarding traffic -- that's nonsense. First of all -- all these free movies are being hotlinked -- same with all the free pics and thumbs on all of these sites. Very few people are hosting their main URL on terra.es -- that would be stupid. I could offload all my graphics onto terra.es -- the same way that a lot of people used to do w/ geocities and fortunecity -- and save a lot of bandwidth. But anyway my point is that you can't redirect hotlink traffic. Besides most of these free movie sites update every day or every other day -- if terra.es redirected anything -- WOW they would get maybe 1-2 days of traffic at the most. Big fucking deal. To them we must be like little fleas. ------------------ Oliver-Klozov.com Associate / Five-Elements.com Partner (Hosting/Perl Code) / TheFLY.net Webmaster |

Jer, what is your email or ICQ?
I wanted to ask you how much you pay for internet access in SP, Brazil... I was thinking of maybe someday moving or at least visiting there -- one book I read said that internet access was $4-$8/hour but one of my friends from there said that is probably the price in an internet cafe... |

Maybe, the solution to the Terra.Es problem is Zen-like-- so many leeches will slow their shit down or plant KP onto their service that the whole thing will implode. Just like the early free counters services --porn webmasters leeched the fuck out of these services, they cracked down or went down. The same thing will happen to non-porn resources like Terra, Equis, tons of french sites, etc that we'll all be back to paying for fast hosting.

So with Terra.es being a Nasdaq company one can only assume that they are using the traffic to attempt to bolster their plummeting advertising revenues and over inflate their numbers. Last I check "cooking" the books was frowned upon by the SEC, unless this is their new long-term goal to try and turn a profit; turn into an adult company.

TheFLY, I pay $40 for my ADSL access (256kbps).
Dial-up ISPs are $6 to $15 unlimited access + USD$ 0,50 per hour for the phone bill. At internet cafes the price is $1,5 to $3/hour. email: [email protected] RedShoe, I said Terra at NASDAQ were up TODAY, hehe. I wouldn't invest in them now. Maybe in the future. Jer |
