It's stronger at the moment (at least against the pound) than it has been in the recnt past. Hopefully it'll continue to go that way although all things considered it's doubtful. As someone said it'll probably just yoyo a little and remain in its current fairly weak state.

Of course. That's why I buy US stocks now. With the upstream on the market and a stronger dollar you can double or triple your money (if you are from EURO zone) while investing in low risk, conservative markets. (buy Apple stocks )

No.

If not for the legal system I would actually consider packing up my family and moving to the U.S. Although I don't rely on my online earnings, I find it very hard to get excited even when I have a good month. A typical house in my neighbourhood would equate to appx 1.5 million USD. A cheap 1 bedroom apartment in town, about $400K. And yet 1.5 million USd would buy you quite a nice place in the US, dependant upon area. Also to put it into perspective, my daughter's school fees come to appx $50K a year. That would be enough for her to attend Wharton. LOL

If everyone wants the dollar become stronger, why not? If we all start buying dollars ouside of US the deficit will up its international price.

I'm not sure that understand economics very well.... The weak dollar is GOOD for the US economy.

The EU is getting DESPERATE to try to weaken the Euro. The reason why the unemployment rate in most of the EU is twice what it is in the US has a lot to do with an overly strong Euro. It is killing EU exports, just as the weak dollar is doing great things for US exporters and manufacturers

How does that make any kind of sense? Even if he is acting out of pure self interest only, and only for "big business", then he has a vested interest in a strong ecomomy that increases consumer spending. How would bug businesses make money if no one can buy their products?

Has anyone ever studied even BASIC economics around here?

Today is the lowest exchange rate i've ever seen while in this business.... (1.249 Canadian).

Hopefully it goes up soon. If the canadian dollar goes above the US dollar im going to be pissed.

Yup. I was looking at this too. It doesn't really make a difference to me anymore but I can see how it would drive Canadians insane right now.

Not necessarily, it is good for exporters.
But in the US exporting is a relatively small part of the US economy
compared to your typical european or asian economy (if you doubt that just look at the trade deficit on a country by country basis)..

And as you say the strength of the euro has kept european economies relatively slowly growing.. Who does this hurt? Europeans yes, but also the US economy because europeans buy a fuckload of US goods :/

Another reason against having a weak dollar that you seem to approve is, is that on purchasing power parity a weak dollar makes United States assets cheaper to the rest of the world.
Which in effect makes Americans poorer. If US dollar being weak was GOOD for the economy, then that would be the official policy of the treasury, but it's not, a STRONG dollar is.

Of course EU exporters would love a weaker euro, or more correctly a stronger dollar. However the ECB has not intervened, at least in the last few years, they will let the market be, or at least until the pressure from exporters gets too hot.

I am expecting an exchange rate between 1.1 to 1.00 (euro/usd)
The Euro uptrend is broken and the FED leaves the way of the cheap money policy.

not really .. the US $ is just lower...

Good thing I didn't follow FAXXAFF economic road ... I, in fact , sold my property in Florida att that time... So, on exchange to compare to today, I made about 45 000.00 more ...

In respect to Canadian dollar, I can see par within the next 2 years.

It doesn't really matter to me but I think nothing is going to change within the next two years. My finacial advisor thinks the same. We are financing a war with gazillions of borrowed money (China is our biggest creditor) and sooner or later someone's has to pick up the tab. This means, our government is printing money right now, more than what is healthy. There are other factors:

Real Estate down
Manufacturing Industry down
Cosumer Confidence down
Jobs down
Inflation up (if you disredgard the election bonus in gas this month)

Nobody in their right mind expects a strong dollar any time soon.

Too frikken right - about 3/4 of my clients are from the US and thus they pay me in $ for scripts. That together with the 5% ccard processing fee for payements means I end up with peanuts for hard work.

While it's fine for the big projects, I can hardly be bothered to fill gaps with $100 scripts anymore.

I feel in the long term, the USD will go back up to where it was or better - but in the short term (1-2 years) until the Iraq war is settled down a bit - it will continue to drop...

I WISH the USD would go WAY up and our Canadian dollar would drop again - man that was sweet in 2001 - 2003 or so
