Answer to question on email:

yes, there is a reserve, no the reserve isn't out of site, and yes, the auction is for 7 days.

Come on down. I can say that a number of people have bookmarked the auction already, so that is a sign of interest. :-)

Steen, if you can't see the value, don't waste your time. Your negative comments and vibe are just not welcome here.

I search Ebay and found 20-25 people have typed califonia in their item descriptions alone. That isn't a big sample, but every little bit counts in the end.

The miniimum bid starts at $500... I have a reserve price n there, which I might drop if the bids get close enough for my liking, otherwise I will re-run this in a couple of weeks.

Make a bid, you could get it. :-)

That would actually equate to quite a few type-ins per month. That's how many people are actually typing in the domain name into the overture search engine. So you know plenty more are typing it into their browser. Could be nice for somene who knew what to do with it.

yeah, I actually think that 48 is a very good sign of the number of people typing it in in various places each day. The type in / bookmark traffic (awstats) is 156 / 332 for the first three days of the month. As I know most people wouldn't bookmark the ads, I am assuming that it is all type ins and such.

A couple of thousand type ins each month is a nice way to start something :-)

Ebay is the wrong site for domain selling

Try Afternic, Sedo etc. and you'll get way better results.

I went to some of those places, and looked at what they are getting price wise, and I honestly was NOT impressed. Their listing fees seemed to be very high as well.

This is a test the water thing, I own over 1000 domains, I have never actively tried to auction any of them. I will see what comes of it if people bid this thing up enough.

You obviously don't know how ebay bidders work, most bids are made during the last day / hours / minutes / seconds of the auction.

The fact that there are no bids yet doesn't mean shit.

I'll tell you again eBay is the wrong place to sell domains, no listing fees at sedo, afternic, greatdomains etc.

Do you really want to sell that domain for peanuts at eBay?

Anyway it's your choice and not my problem.

You will notice there is a reserve on the auction, and $500 ain't near it.

What can I say? I want to see what the market it, and then move on from there.

A good ebay tip is to start the bidding at something like $1. It gets people to keep checking back. If you put it at $500, you scare people off right away. With a $1 starting bid, you would probably start getting some early bids too.

chodadog: In the case, I didn't want to get anyone excited into thinking this was going to be a $20 domain. There are a number of people watching the auction now, and I don't really expect much action until maybe 2 days to go.

I have other domains I might go the "no reserve start at $20" routine, but those won't have the type of traffic and potential this domain has.

Steen, overture will only return results for "CALIFONIA" if you specify CALIFONIA.COM - that means 48 people in that month, on overture (and it's forced feed partners) actually TYPED AND CLICKED on something from that term.

That is only people who can't seem to type into an address bar, typing into a search box instead.

Actual type ins? Well, for 4 days, I am seeing 201 pages, 427 hits from bookmarkers / directs. that is 50 a day, or 1500 this month on the lowest number.

18,000 a year low number... probably closer to 25-28k.

Value is what you make it. Trust me, the two offers by email were both much higher than your "estimate".

Obviously you have reading comprehension problems. Reread my post please.

However in the end, Overture is just a judgement tool. Raw traffic (and ultimately the mighty net $) is what really matters.

I just don't see it getting that much traffic.

My advice: Get as much money as you can for the domain, while you can.

Steen, those stats ARE my stats, pretty consistant ones at that. There are that many people slightly confused on the subject.

Google: Results 1 - 10 of about 58,800 for califonia.

58,800 pages in google with the mis-spell too.

If I don't get my price, I keep it, that's all.

What has no value to you has value to others, that's life.

if it was only a typo domain with random letters, it would be worthless.

A huge number of people don't know that there is an R in califoRnia... that is why it is valuable. People mistype it all the time, in exactly this manner.

They don't acccidently type calimnhia, now do they?

If you don't see value, don't bid. Useless haters don't need to participate.

what is the reserve, I am interested in the name, but if you have a ridiculious reserve I dont want to waste my time. Sorry to be blunt, but most domainers share the same opinion.

The reserve is reasonable, obviously higher than the opening bid (and I have turned down offers higher than that).

Considering the traffic and the potential, the reserver is VERY low... domain has been evaluated between 1k-5k, and the reserve is on the low end of that scale.
