What are the benefits of a condo?

Why do some choose to live in condo rather than a house, besides the view and the upkeep (no lawn to mow).

It's too similar to an apartment, no? If there are roaches in the building, you get 'em. If you have crappy neighbours, you have to live right next to them.

In Canada, they're often run by owner strata councils. These are the people that are retired, have nothing to do and wish to perfect their nazi impressions. They're old, crabby and unreasonable.

I've always thought of it as "not owning the land". I guess techinically you do, but you can't tear it down and build something new on it.

I guess it's better than an apartment but it pretty much sucks ass either way.

Benefits? You can be lazy and not maintain your house.

I'll move into a condo when I'm 70.

In some areas they are popular because of the cost relative to homes.

Some people just can't fucking mind their own business.

These people LOVE living in condo situations.

Starter condos are good for building equity and shaking the 1st mortage stigma... or for starting over in the case of a divorce.

You are right to an extent... I have no idea why anyone would want to live in ones that are comperable in price to a house. Maybe if you are a a useless tit that is too stupid or too lazy to be able to maintain a house.

You get to open your mailbox and find letters from the condo association about "one of your neighbors" who reported you for letting your dog out without a leash.

Also you get to pay ever increasing association fees for the upkeep and management of the building and grounds.

Oh, and you get to listen to your neighbor pee because they built the walls using paper.

Other than that is is a good deal.

That you hope it turns out like Melrose Place and you get to bang everyone in the building.

That's what I thought too but condos are being built left and right and sold.

I lived in a Condo down in St. Petersburg, FL. Looking back the only perks were the no mowing the lawn and location. The costs of the condos were as much as houses.

Nice condos like the ones the wealthy can afford are all good. They're nothing like apartments per se because they're huge, clean, exclusive, and you don't run into the kinds of problems with neighbors, usually because you have most of the floor to yourself, lol

I'm just refering to the typical condos that sprout up everywhere and go for similar price as your average house.

Dave, if you ever find a condo that in anyway resembles Melrose Place, I'm moving in.

Not for me! The place burns down or crumbles to the ground from a quake and you have nothing to "claim" as far as real estate except, "that's my airspace up there." And you point to the 11th floor where your unit "use to be."

A lot of people get condo's in vacation spots because they prefer having a place always there vs. staying in a hotel.

When you're single most people don't want to feel alone in a big house all by themselves. And they like the idea of hanging at the pool with lots of other singles on the weekends.

Some people are always traveling or on the go and they don't need all the maintainence hassles of yards and houses.

You get great views from high condo's.

In Manhatten you don't have much choice LOL.

probably the main reason is because it's usually much cheaper than a house....
