Want a Job Working From Home?

I just finished an article on people who work from home . . . who knew so many did? Anyway, in it I spoke with a company that's looking for a couple of remote workers. If you're interested - you can check it out here . . .

REMOTE JOBS - HOW TO GET'EM

If you get hired, I'll expect a beer in Vegas ;)

Yeah, I didn't realize how many people actually work from home - outside of those that work for themselves. I think it just seems funny as companies have to put so much trust in their employees. That's a lot of trust going around. Who knew this business could be so damn friendly?

That's just it - you must be motivated! I look around at the positions I've had in the companies I've worked for, and I think it's always the same. Half of them are there because they are passionate and motivated to be, the other half are there because of the pay cheque.

It just seems that you need to be really careful about who you hire - and how the heck could you REALLY ever know? I guess if it's a sales job and the numbers aren't going up, it's a telling sign . . . but still!

very nice article...

I've worked remotely the entire time i've been in the biz. I actually probably work more because I am remote than I would in the office. It seems like I can't get away from issues. Someone always needs attention or an email needs answered or an ICQ responded to. Starts at 6 a.m. and doesn't stop until I shut the computer down at about 2 or 3 a.m....

Did you start working for a company or your own projects? I'd be interested in seeing if someone found their way in to a remote position blindly.

I don't see it that way. The article said that one business owner only gives his remote programmers one chance. If they blow it, they're gone. That's not trust, that's a desire to see results.

My husband spent so much time looking at porn I told him to find a way to make money from it. We started reading boards, taught ourselves html and design, registered domains and started that way. The working for others kind of fell in my lap through a friend.

Well, that's the only one that is overtly stated. But in effect, from the article, Top Bucks, Soul Cash, Adult Paymaster, Facial Cash and WebcamCash all have remote employees. I can't say 100 per cent (percent for our US freiends) of those interviewed have a base salary, but at least half do for sure. And that's only the people mentioned in the article.

I think there's a number of companies placing trust like that in their employees - let's just hope they all have solid vetting criteria. ;)

Good Article Doug!... I work from home as NakedSword's LA office.. I get more done as far as affiliates and etc then the previous guy who was in the office in San Fran. I think it helps NakedSword having someone representing in LA because lots of the players are here both gay and straight. My only complaint is I do get lonely from time to time...And I miss out on NakedSword's bagel Friday's and I don't have a tech department to help with computer issues. But overall I like it and I respect the trust my boss Tim has placed in me and would never ever do anything to harm that trust.

well written article Doug; i see a lot of job posting on various boards so they're not hard to come by.
It's the motivation & discipline that's hard to control, if you want to be successful.

Good read

I'd like to add some perspective here. The work from home deal is a two way street. If you've been around the biz long enough, you've learned some things that might be hard to come by and aren't found in books or on the boards.

A job at home or in the office is a two way street. The employee half needs to know and take care in whom s/he goes to work for. Knowing the people involved is everything. That is a bit hard to do with just ICQ and board chat. What I'm trying to say is that there are potential employers that will rip you off.

Had an experience recently about promoting a new site. Did some ICQ chat and it sounded interesting. Then moved to a couple of hours on the phone. All was going well and we reached agreement on a dollar amount and a definition of the job. A wire transfer was promised, so I started providing some detail information, essentially began working. After a couple days, the $$ didn?t show and I quickly became suspicious. An email or two confirmed that this was gonna be a rip off. So I bailed before it really got out of hand.

That one took me back. Had to ask myself: Am I that naïve yet? BTW, I checked out the company and it appeared they had deep pockets. Point is, I didn?t really know the people and while it sounded good, it wasn?t. A job is a two-way deal. Don't get blinded by the site of $$.

Very well-written Doug! I'm sure a lot of people aren't aware how much the industry depends on remote employees.
