So, how many DOMAINS will be STOLEN?

This new ICANN policy is nuts.

My main registrar didn't even really support mass locking by default, they had to make some hack to do it.

I still can't see the lock status without clicking on each individual domain

This is going to get ugly for a lot of people I think.

I've locked all mine.. i've checked for a few great domains, and they're not locked... the temptation is killing me.

yea it is... I had checked the bulk of my names which are at one registrar.. I had already locked them all.. but had forgotten about a few here and there scattered around on other registrars. This 5 days crap is BS..

I do believe they needed to do something about some of the crappy companies that they to hold your names hostage.. However what they did was pretty freaking dumb way of doing it.

Sues for what?

Picture this...

you're on a 2 week vacation with your domains unlocked.

the attacker sends you an email to the effect of...

"Hi... I like your domain whatever.com, will you consider transferring it to me if you are no longer using it? I will initiate a transfer request now, if you disagree, just deny the transfer request. Thanks, Joe Scum."

Then Joe Scum follows up with his request to xfer your domain.

You're gone for two weeks and can't deny the request.

He gets it & you're fucked.

This ICANN policy is moronic.

Domain hijacking will NOT be easier with this new ruling. The ruling was changed because so many registrars that are LOSING a domain in a transfer would ignore the transfer request, thus holding onto domains that an owner wanted to transfer away from that registrar

Read the following URL to understand it better...

You can lock your domains by logging into your account at your registrar. You should see a link somewhere that allows you to lock your domains... If you don't, contact them. They may be able to do it for you...

Keep in mind, in order for a transfer away to go through, you still have to approve the transfer with the gaining registrar. It's not like you can go on vacation and find that all your domains have been transferred away.

Also, you can usually see the domain status if you do a WHOIS at http://www.geektools.com/whois.php Somewhere in the whois results it will say: Domain Status: Locked. Or active, or on hold, etc...

Hope that helps...
