Windows Media Player problems - HELP!

Have just downloaded some video content, its been encoded in WMP 9 format, 512kps, fairly good quality.

Heres my problems. The guys we got it off say it runs fine for them. It dosent for us. In every wmv file we have, either right at the start of the movie, or periodically at the same sections throughout the movie, a Windows Media Player error will appear saying 'Windows Media Player cannot play the file because it is corrupted', with a link to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...x?&id=C00D11C5.

Also, the audio is not sync'd in these movies, the video is about 2 seconds ahead.

Now, this wouldnt be a huge problem except that :

1. We cant even get these movies into premier to edit them, they freeze the whole program, there is something WRONG with them.

2. If we have problems, our members will have problems, and thats something we cant afford to have happen.

Also of note, when these files are played in a different player (for eg, the divx PLAYA), there is no error message that appears, however the video will freeze in all the same spots, while the audio continues to play.

Any ideas peeps?

We have, and they are ... i just have a feeling we will get the same errors ...

They said it could be a downloading issue, so we have asked them to zip up all the files and we are downloading the zip files ... will see how it goes, hopefully that might fix the corrupted file error messages, but i doubt it will fix the audio syncing.

We will see i suppose. I just thought it might be some sort of codec problem that someone else round here may have encountered before.

I am running windows media player 10, so it could have something to do with that ... i dont know, just wanted to put it out there.

Thats the sign of either a corrupt download/or your harddrive giving up. Or badly encoded video.
