My Gambling Problem & My New Years Resolution.

Ive made a promise to myself and feel its time I finally put an end to a horrible addiction that is gambling..

Ive pretty much hit rock bottom in the past month and perhaps thats what was needed..

I actually feel pretty good now for the first time in weeks..

Putting this behind me finally once and for all.

One day at a time.

Its going to be my new years resolution, and a promise to myself..

Im done.

Done for at least for the year until I can get a better grip on things.

Shit has really spun out of control..

If I stop now, it may be resolvable.. If I continue, I feel it will come to the point to where it will absolutly ruin me...

It has gotten that bad..

This month alone Ive gambled and lost more than most GFYers make in 1 year..

Shit you not..

Its time for a change...

I have to end it. And now before its too late.

I wish you luck -- it's a tough one.

(Coming from someone who knows that addiction more than he wants too...)

ive called my credit cards and put limits on them and blocks on all known sportsbooks..

But even with this, as I have before Ive found ways around this..

It has to be more than that.

Not sure what else to do in order to full proof myself from making deposits into this activity.

i quit cold turkey at the end of 1999, so i guess that's close to 5 years now. damn. i was thinking it was more like 4 years, but i guess i'm creeping up on 5.

was very tough to do, but after the first year, it becomes much, much easier. i remember going to internext in 2001 (my first time in Vegas) and having absolutely no interest in playing at all.

This month, for the first time since 2001, Ive actually spent more than I make or can afford to spend..

Its bad..

Its something I can have paid off by end of January I think, but lets just say its pretty damn bad..

Yeah the vegas style gambling doesnt even call to me really.

Its the multi dime sports betting. The 8k a day betting shit..

Ive got to stop..

But so much of gambling is in my social life.

Im not sure if im gunna have to kick out poker nights and playing cards as well. Never really thought of that as gambling. Pretty small stakes for my taste compared to the out of control sports betting I do..

But shit... Maybe the poker and everything will have to be eleminated.. I really dont want to quit guys poker night, but will have to if it tends to lead me to the desire or urge of the problamatic gambling.

I really dont know.. I just dont know..

This may sound a little crazy....but I'd "sponsor" a local family that is struggling bad. Maybe going to see people who truely have a need for that dough you are tempted to bet will keep you on track, and giving to a family that needs it in some way will be very satisfying, and not as expensive.
I've been so poor in the last year that I ate cream cheese for dinner b/c I had to ration what I had to feed my kids for the week. I always saw people throwing money away and though, God, what I would give for a hundred buck to go grocery shopping or pay my light bill, and they are wasting it on bullshit.
But on another note, best wishes and luck to you...I'll keep you in my thoughts.
Hugs!

after awhile you lose the mood to gamble then eventually I
just drop it altogether

yeah, i was always into the high limits black jack. could easily make or lose 10K in a night, and this was when i didn't have the kind of money i have now. i knew i needed to stop, and finally i just did.

like i said, if you can stay away a year, you've probably licked it (at least that was the case for me). i gambled starting when i was around 17 and continued until i was 26. gambling addiction is every bit as powerful as any sort of drug addiction. those who disagree simply don't understand it.

good luck man. you should bookmark this thread prominently on your desktop.

Ive also pulled out all my money in stock and closed my etrade account.

It seems that I tricked myself into thinking that shit was investing..

All it was, was slow triggering gambling..

Same effects and high.. Just real diluted and not as fast..

Ive been up and down 10k here and there with stocks in a weeks time and the heat can be just as bad as sports wagering..

I need to stay away from it all.

You know that you have to quit gambling, but you know it since a long time and you always start again. You can not stop it just by saying some words.
It is a good step to out your self here. But the last year you did the same and nothing has changed.
Relocate to a place where no sports gambling is around, move to Europe or travel around the world with Dugmor. Take a time off to see something different.

Im willling to give it all up..

Except the small stakes poker..

and maybe the dog races..

That shit isnt realy gambling.
ITs literally just pocket change with old high school buddies..

$20.00-$50.00 kinda shit 2 times a month..

But the thousands in sportsbook action, and any casino action is done..

Thats the plan.. And Im stickin with it. Im done with the sportsbook shit.

I stopped 4 years ago with casino shit, now I need to do it with sports..

I think I can do this..

Im really gunna try hard never to do it again.

The Bellagio is gunna be pissed for giving me a free Suite at $2000.00 value for internext, and seeing no action on the tables from me on my tracking card.

LOL..

Looks like I wont be staying at the MGM properties anymore.

I guess I can consider this as "Cashing in".

It may sound cheesy, but give it a try.

When you need a GA sponsor... hit me up. At this point -- you're obviously not ready to quit.

I wish you the best.

And if I do, then I wont be able to cash in on all the free gifts I rightfully earned by becoming a VIP..

You should see the gifts these guys send me..

In 1997 they even sent me to the SuperBowl!
If they are a responsible and serious company they will do this. If not, they are fuckers. Earlier or later they will close your accounts, up on request or because you are broke.

Regards the gifts: forget them. You have already paid them.

decide whether your doing this to boast about how much money you have, or if you're doing this to better yourself. If its the latter, then put your 15 inch cock back in your pants, theres no need to tell everyone how much you lost, how you'll never be broke, etc. If you want to overcome this, you're going to need the support of others. So leave your ego at the door and really look for those people in your life that you can depend on.

yes if you ask the casinos to ban you and they knowingly allow you to play there they can be liable.

Looks to me that your problem isnt the gambling, but the spot light of being a big deal high roller. I have had friends in this same position, and unfortantly untill they had to file, trade their house for the 1 bedroom apartment, and suffer the fact that the bmw they once drove is now a honda civic. Its funny, an old pal I went to college with, self made multi- millionare by the age of 24 still rolls around in his stock 94 Chevy Tahoe. He has the most power visa ever, if he wants VIP anywere, he just has to call VISA and they call the place he is tring to get into. He still refuses to use it.

I think that spot light thing you are talking about is characteristic off all high rollers..

Its a dynamic..

The hosts know it, and yeah im starting to notice it too..

Good point..

Its stories like this that haunt me.

Thats why I want to make the choice to quit this shit before it evolves to something like that..

Jesus.. Scares me..

Thats what I need.

Im glad I got my ass kicked this month.. It was what i needed..
A wakeup call was exactly what I needed..
