45,000 Feared Dead

My heart just dropped when I saw this new number...

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/041228/1/3pin6.html

Funny how the whole world comes to standstill when less then 3,000 american die, but yet 45,000 die in Asia and no one gives a fuck. That disgusts me.

people dieing from murder is different then people dieing from a natrual disaster. But with that being said, i do agree. Too many people just carry on like life is normal without taking a minute to think of how serious this is and how unfortunate those people are.

that is a good point, but I think that most of the world outside of the USA cares a lot. It's all over the US news too. 9/11 was so big given all the circumstances and America had it coming.

I wouldnt compare it to 911 because it was natural. Why do people seem more apathetic. The main reason is those countries are poor and are generally extremely overcrowded. Its the same reason most people could care less about things that have happend in Africa over the eyars.

How can you say no one gives a fuck? Just look at the article you posted. The first line reads, "The biggest humanitarian relief operation ever mounted was underway along Asia's devastated shores."

9-11 seems like nothing now. I mean we made a big deal baout 3000 dead. Which it is a sad thing, but hell in Sri Lanka nearly 1 in every 1000 people there died in that tsunami. That would be like the US losing 290,000.

The count from people dying of disease in these countries will be equal too or greater than those that have already died.

This is just horrible. I heart goes out to all of those people affected. Man this year sucked. So many natural disasters this year already and little did we know the worst was yet to come.

Yes, the numbers will rise for a long time..
first the immediate deaths from the actual tsunami...
then the deaths from diseases like malaria...
then the deaths from tainted water/food...
then the deaths from the food/shelter shortage...
and I'm sure I am forgetting something.
This is a tragedy in the truest sense of the word.
Makes me hold my babies a little tighter when I have them in my arms, and give thanks for the people I love and the lifestyle we are blessed to have.
