Best way to maximize tax writeoffs is to go to a CPA. The tax code is so convoluted it's hard for anyone to make heads or tails of, so you may as well use someone who does it full time, chances are they'll be better at it than you. You can write off part of your mortgage or rent if you work from home, part of your utilities, etc etc. Basically anything used for business can be written off, but there are limits for food, entertainment & use of vehicle.

good advice!
get an accountant.
and don't be a pig about writing stuff off or anything like that, or you're asking for an audit.

Being sensible and honest about write offs is fine and dandy
but first of all what is it that one can write off?
there must be other lots of things such as cost of upgrading computers, software, web design cost, content cost etc.

I use a simple rule of thumb. You can write off any legitimate expense so if I can see myself explaing it to a jury and they nod then it is ok.

The coolest thing about this business is there are very few expenses. Most of the money you make you get to keep.

#3 you could write off. That is a legitimate medical expense that very well could be business related. As are HIV and STD testing. If you shoot content or perform yourself, that is an honest deduction.
