Iraq 2004: What went wrong

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/mid...st/4123889.stm

Quote:
One of the most brilliant invasion successes in modern military history was followed almost immediately by one of the most incompetently planned occupations.
Quote:
Iraqi security forces and police proved hopelessly inadequate.

Kidnappings and videotaped beheadings moved from nightmarish fears to reality.

Prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib provided lasting images of brutality.
Quote:
Mistakes were made and the insurgency was underestimated
Regarding Iraqi police & army:
Quote:
US command emphasised quantity over quality to the point where unprepared Iraqis were sent out to die.

I'd like to say thank you to the people who voted for George W. Bush.

They created the mess, let them clean it up.

"Iraq 2004: What went wrong"

The more appropriate question would be:

Election 2004: What went wrong?

Depends on who you ask, I'm sure the Idiot-sheep(Bush-Republican lovers) think everything went well, while the rest of the normal people realize the entire thing is just a BIG HUGE FUCK UP.

That's so true. I can't believe we witnessed this happen. I mean first the Berg kid was video taped getting beheaded and it was so fucked up and now it's normal. Anytime I hear of a kidnapping now I just assume they are dead unless they are incredibly lucky.

It started with a twinkling in the eyes of some who thought they should invade the place. That was long before any 9/11 or any "war on terror".

There is no real problem in Iraq. It's called an occupation, and some of the locals - most likely pushed by God knows who - are a bit pissy about it. Not much different than a band of terrorists in Germany at the close of WWII. They called themselves "Wolverines".

But that was just some little 'terror force'.

The US never should have invaded the Iraq. Then there would be alot less action down there.. Well.. I only hope that will be be an US problem for some time (sorry)

Denial.

Same attitude during the Vietnam war.

They keep on doing it because it does what they want to happen, the civilian contractors to leave/avoid Iraq, hence stopping the reconstruction. This makes Iraqies feel that nothing has changed since the fall of Saddam and that the US does really want all the oil.

Every single argument made FOR the war before the war has now turned out to be false and naive.

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

I think the term used to describe them was "a band of local thugs" :-)

Since then, they have become "insurgents"....
