Employees of domain registration sites

Ugh, like a lot of you guys I search for tons of domains to see if they are taken and I don't always reg them right away if they are 3 word domains that are extremely specific. Recently I have been using GoDaddy to do my searches and have had a few really worthless domains get registered by someone in Tucson Arizona. GoDaddy is in Scottsdale.

Hmmmm, I wold not think there was a connection if these domains were not so obscure.

Not saying anyone is watching, but you gotta bet that there are employees who go through the search logs.

Greg, you might want to use a standalone whois program, rather than a web-based "free whois" service (I know some of them watch for good ideas) or a registrar's availability-checker. Most unix boxes would have it included, just do a "whois -Q domainname.com", or on a windows box, I dunno, I use an old dos whois program, but there are a zillion options. A name may not show up in a whois query, even though it's already taken, if it was registered in the last half day or so. Similarly, a name may show up as taken (though pending delete), even though it's been made available in the last half day or so.

Thanks, I gotta start doing that. What is funny is another company registered the most common typo of the domain this fucker "stole" from me the day after he registered his. I would not want that domain without the most common typo. LOL! I send the guy an email telling him this because I had sent a message today asking for the price.

A year or so ago I had an idea and some pics to start a humor site about a common every day nuisance. I did a whois and the name I had in mind was available but I had a problem getting the transaction to go through. I got busy and it was the following morning when I tried again.

To my surprise I found out the name had been registered the night before and the only thing that ever appeared on the site was simply a page soliciting others to send in pics and stories of the kind I had ready to go (which apparently they never did).

This thread inspired me to check it again and guess what, it's now parked at GoDaddy

Yes, gotta find a sitter for my retarded dog and will be driving over hopefully on Monday morning.

You gonna be at a booth or just walking around? I will be shooting tons of video all week so you might see me with a camera in front of my face.
