building in a second harddisk - need help!
i checked inside and they say that the original 1st harddisk is always on the master plug of the cable. But mine is on the slave plug! the master plug is never been used.
But i heard u got to have windows on the master, so can i put my present hd with windows xp in the master plug, and my new 2nd hd in my slave plug without any problems? |

ok its working, on to the next step...
right now im in xp, and this balloon with "found new hardware" popped up and all but the disk aint in "my computer" yet.... I heard this is normal, now i have to do something with 'fdisk' to partition it... who knows, or where can i find, info how to do this exactly? I found it on google at some forum but i had to reboot the comp im on now (im on another comp then the one i build that had in) so i lost that forum page/name! |

by the way: my old hard disk is already partitioned, on C: is windows and D: other files.
So i dont think i have to partition my 2nd (new) harddisk do i? Because i already have an OS and i dont want to put an OS on my 2nd hard disk. (btw the 2nd hd is 160 gb) |

I see you have no clue what you are doing. Better to get some one to come over to help you before it is too late.

A good walk-through on how to fdisk, partition, format and etc can be found at http://www.fdisk.com/fdisk/
You have to format your new drive (from DOS it would be 'format X', X being your drive letter), which can be done from the admin panel in XP. |

1. Log on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
2. Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK. 3. In the console tree, click Disk Management. The Disk Management window appears. Your disks and volumes appear in a graphical view and list view. To customize how you view your disks and volumes in the upper and lower panes of the window, point to Top or Bottom on the View menu, and then click the view that you want to use. |

Hey i figured it out! I went there^ (disk managemnt) according to another forum, and a wizard popped up and it did what the wizard said. Then i had to make 'volumes' (its dutch i think the english word is the same) and again a wizard for this popped up. Now its formatting the new hard disk and when it's done its ok!
Thanks everyone for your help ![]() |
