***SLEAZYDREAM*** -- easy-dater.com DNS restored

Hi,

DirectI.com just emailed me saying that they've restored the nameservers to ns1.national-net.com and ns2.national-net.com, so you should be back in action.

The WHOIS still needs to be changed, though. E-mail me (see sig) if you need further assistance (as well as to give you the trouble ticket they gave me). Assuming you followed up by fax yesterday, and pursue it with Dotster ASAP, everything should be ok.

Sincerely,

George

hehe Thanks, Alan. You know my contacts/detective skills from the other forums. ;) Here, I'm just a low post count newbie.

One of my friends got me a list of the other domains that xyberotica appeared to hijack, so hopefully directi.com will do the right thing, and be PROACTIVE in returning those to the rightful owners.

It would be nice if folks can take the time to leave comments about the new ICANN Transfer Policies at:

http://www.icann.org/announcements/a...nt-12jan05.htm

I've been active with regards to ICANN processes for years now, and they really need a big push in order to do anything. Volume of complaints really does make a difference (witness how quickly SiteFinder got shut down).

Knowing the right people, and following their procedures did it. Sleazydream needs to followup next week, but after talking to him tonight, he's aware of what to do.

In one word: Networking

(that's why some of us are here, to expand our network; although, some are here for sig views... )

The best reward would be to get more people to send comments to:

http://www.icann.org/announcements/a...nt-12jan05.htm

My own comments are at:

http://forum.icann.org/lists/transfe.../msg00002.html

I've seen this coming for ages -- ICANN's policies are often poorly thought out, with little regard for the fate of registrants. Domain registrants have little impact on the process right now.

Thanks, but hopefully folks don't rest on their laurels, now that this fire has been put out. e.g. Adult.com is still unlocked, and ripe to be stolen (as pointed out in another thread), although given Loryn posted in that thread, hopefully they're aware and will fix it this week.

Processes need to change, to protect registrants more, and not the criminals. As I was telling Sleazydream, a domain making $1000/day or $1 million/day has about the same protection as a domain making 5 cents/day! If this was real estate, you'd think that a $10 million home would have a better protection than a $2 padlock used to secure a backyard shed.

Funkmaster: Did you document the theft 5 years ago, and complain? Given you've waited so long, it'd be hard to get it back, but nothing's impossible. The current registrant seems to be able to be reached (i.e. appears to be in North America, has a website, isn't in Russia). Might cost $5K to $10K in legal fees, though. It's unclear to me that that name is worth the fight (i.e. it seems like a $5,000 to $10,000 domain name, not the $100K+ domains that are highly prized).

Feel free to email me with more details, if you wish.
