Scariest movie ever?

I love scary movies... but its very hard to scare me. I think the only movie that has ever scared me is Poltergeist. Im 28 years old and that damn Clown Doll makes me about crap myself.

What is your vote for the scariest movie? Give me some ideas, because I want to find one scarier than Poltergeist.

I'll have to agree with you on that, Poltergeist movies are pretty damn scary.

There's also movies like the Hellraiser series which are pretty fucking crazy.

My last nominee would be Nightmare On Elm Street. Those scared the shit outta me back when I was younger.

It may not have been the scariest, but I always thought the Shining was a great film.

The Shining gets my vote. The old lady in the bathtub gives me the major creeps. Also the pig-man in Amityville Horror.

Hey E-van! Whats up man!

The Exorcist was good, but it never really scared me.

The nightmare scene in American Werewolf in London gave me nightmares for weeks as a kid.

My brother used to chase me around saying he was "Zelda" from Pet Sematary when I was younger. I had to beat his ass to get him to stop.

Im watching Poltergeist now, and the maggot scene just grossed me out all over again. When the steak starts puking up little steak juniors, I get queasy.

Alien was good, but it never scared me. I like creepy, not startling.

I think if Blair Witch was real, it would have been the scariest ever. When we found out it was fake, it was stupid.

I distinctly remember being scared to death by the original Nightmare On Elm Street. Fuckinf nightmare scenes and a total loss of what was reality or not....and I wasn't even stoned at the time.

Second for me would be Halloween 2 (I think that's the one). That damn music from the Halloween movies still gives me the chills.

THE EXORCIST still remains unbeaten in terms of true scariness ... and in terms of creepiness too (when they go to Africa, and show the locusts, etc)...

Other honorable mentions go to :

-THE EVIL DEAD
-PIN
-MAUSOLEUM
-I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (knowing it is a snuff film makes it fucking WAY scarier !!)
-BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (I was slightly impressed with it ...BWP2 is even better !!)
-FRIDAY THE 13th (Parts I and II only ..)
-JEEPERS CREEPERS (can't wait for JC 2)
-CRREPSHOW needs mention too ... not as all time scary, but for a film very well done!

Oh yes .... KILLER CLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE deserves mention too (who would have thought you could kill somebody with Cotton Candy ?!?)

The only movies that actually scared me were:

1) "Race With The Devil" - ending was really shocking

2) "The Devil's Rain" - another Satanic thriller from the 1970s

3) All the Vincent Price movies especially "The Last Man On Earth" & the Poe series

Movies don't scare me.

Although, As Nysus said Requium for dream is pretty damn good film.

It's very artsy, and super depressing. I don't think it's scary. More of a trip down a drug lined road.

I think there is a BIG difference between watching a movie at home, where you can turn lights off/on or just pause/turn off the VCR, and watching the very same movie in a big, silent, dark theatre.

The first time I watched The Exorcist in a theatre, I could not get to the end; I left before I shit in my paints.
Afterwards, I watched The Exorcist a few times at home (the last time, to see the now uncut scene where Linda Blair slides down the handrail of the stairs).
But it will always be the scariest movie to me.

Any chick flick with Meg Ryan or Drew Barrymore in it is truly the most horrific cinematic masterpiece.

Any movie with people floating (standing position). Salem's Lot comes to mind. That kid floating at the window and scratching his nails on the window gave me the creeps.

I wouldn't put my bed next to a window for years.

There's another movie with some chick floating after some guy in the woods. God damn that's creepy.

I'd have to go with the standbys like "The Exorcist" "Nightmare On Elm Street" "Halloween" and "Friday The 13th" (I remember being a kid watching that at the drive in...us kids were in one car and our parents were in the other car...us kids were scared shitless...

I'd also have to add: "Suspiria", "Creepers" (that razorblade carrying monkey fucked me up badly), does anyone else remember that tv-movie called "Trilogy Of Terror" in the 70's? With Karen Black as the woman who gets that little native doll with all the fucking sharp teeth and it comes to life...the scene when she's chasing the doll around the house and drops the knife under the couch and has to reach under and get it as the doll runs under there...I also had a bit of a scare from "Magic" with Anthony Hopkins as the ventriloquist who starts thinking his puppet is alive and controlling him and when he falls in love with Ann Margaret, the bodies start piling up a bit...

I also wrote a top ten list for another webmaster resource site with my top ten favorite horror movies...but the oes mentioned here were a bit scarier...

I also saw someone mention "Killer Klowns From Outer Space" a pure classic from the Chiodo Brothers...
"What are you gonna do with those pies, boys?"

hehehe

I still think Bozley from Charlies Angels was the scarriest character.

Brian John Ritter blew it for me cause i always affiliated him with threes company, but after a while it got good.

HEY GEORGIE... That clown still fucks me up...

I like AMITYVILLE HORROR The first one..And yes sky i remember seeing friday the 13th in the theatre was scary as hell as a kid..

How about JAWS...And GRIZZLY about the bear.. All good classics..Exorcist rules hands down.
