i user limewire, but isn't weird that so many music sharing sites, and programs can get away with p2p when napster pretty much made it big and get sued for it.

napster only got sued because they had centralized servers that contained all the info which legally made them liable for the illegal distribution. these other programs are simply peer to peer direct connects without centralized servers so they aren't liable only the users are.

and i buy about 80% of my stuff through itunes and just download the rest, if they have it on itunes right away and i can get it first thing on new release tuesday i usually just buy it, if it's not available on itunes i just download it.

how have usenet providers (ISPs) been able to get away with providing access to servers that actually have the content ON THEM as opposed to centralized P2P networks and now even torrent sites which merely coordinate traffic? is it because fewer people use usenet?

i don't know specifically but napster was such a big name and easy target along with the centralized servers so they were easy to hit and make a statement.

Stealing music is just as bad as stealing content. I always pay for mine. Always. iTunes is all I use, then sync with the iPod and go.

Yep, iTunes + iPod is great. Forget those P2P's which are slow, full of fakes and riddled with virus.

I have the same feeling as Donovan. Stealing is stealing. Just because it is not your industry and you don't have tons of webmasters that can yell at you does not mean it is ok. If you stole and used one webmasters content from GFY and people found out about it you and I both know you would have a hard time doing biz in the industry.

This is not directed at anyone in particular. Just to those who do not pay for downloads
