Do pushups build forearm muscle?

I'm doing a shitload of pushups, but it seems like I'm only working my shoulders, maybe biceps a little. I don't feel any burn in my forearms afterward. Is there some other exercise (not using weights) I can do for the forearm? And yes, I already do plenty of mastubration.

Yes, they do, but not as much as other things.

Pushups are a great overall excersize.

pushups can work different muscles depending how far apart your hands are when you do them.

Close together works your triceps more than your chest

Further apart works your chest and shoulder muslces more.

Switch it up sometimes.

care to explain the mechanics that brings the forearms into action when doing a simple push up? i thought forearms were used for gripping and for curling your wrist. should i throw away my anatomy books?

Try some tricep extensions. Iknow they work the triceps, but they get the forearms too. People used to say I had Popeye arms because of my forearms.

I"m trying to figure out how you are doing pushups without using your hands or wrists?

I cant.

Yes, throw those fucking books away and quit trying to be a smart ass on the internet.

i noticed you couldn't explain it. so i will help you...

its not about using or not using your "arms" - your forearms are disengaged, i.e. the muscles themselves. your forearms are used for grip and curling your wrist. unless you are gripping something for dear life while you do push ups, or somehow curling your wrists while you do pushups, you are not using them.

I think you misread the original question. He did not say isolate the forarms.

Anything to do with Handlebars is a great forearm builder

Excersize bike
mountain bike
ATV
watercraft

another great lil jewel is a small gyroscopic ball.. called a DynaBee
you can get em online or in sporting goods stores for about 20bucks
you hold in your hand, get the inner wheel turning/gyrating and you keep the motion going by moving your DynaBee in circles... This is one of the best forearm/grip tools Ive seen.... and its fun.

We used to have one here in the CECash offices and we used to get it goin.. do it as long as you could with both arms.. then walk over to another office and hand it off to a coworker...

you will look like Popeye (without the squint) in no time

BIG B
CECash.com

PS.. Bruce Lee/ Charles Bronson.. used to squeeze on a chunk of wax ...
you can work fingers, hand etc....

I love the gyro ball. I used one for years until I either lost it or someone stole it.

BTW

the reason he is working his shoulders doing push ups is because his arms are going out at a 90 degree angle from his trunk, causing him to use his front delts and his chest and his delts are the weaker of the two

try placing your arms out away from your body with your elbows 90 degrees to the floor and bring them back towards your feet, so that your hands and nipples are on the same axis and you will use your chest more... but you can't get away from using your delts a little, your back and your triceps.

Easiest way to work them is to use a stick or bar with a rope attached to a weight. Roll the rope around the bar up and down.

yeah. like thats practical and easy to do. i weigh 220 and can bench 350 and there is no way in hell i could do a push up on my finger tips. you had to google this just to come up with that answer... and the answer sucked anyway.

haha. nevermind. i can do them fairly easily. i am an ass. i am apologize for that post.

regardless, you are not going to build your forearms doing push ups... no matter how you do them. even if you are doing push ups on your fingers, you are still not contracting muscles. that can only be done by gripping something or doing wrist curls.

If you do pushups and dont work your forearms at all, you are not doing pushups.

Look at what the question asks before you answer!!!

I dont know why I argue, I dont give a fuck. The guy asked a question. I answered it. Dont use your forearms when you do pushups. I dont give a fuck. Dont use them when you bench press either. I dont give a fuck at alllllllllllll.

Btw: I'm not a little web geek. I played bigtime ball in college, I've been in some very nice weight rooms. I took those classes.

Any forearm workout will be specifically related to grip. Pullups are a good one because it order to hang on you've got to squeeze onto the bar for dear life.

There are also small "clamps" for lack of a better word to work out forearms. It's like a spring with handles that you repeatedly squeeze the handles together and the spring pushes against you.

.
you are retarded. your forearms are completely disengaged doing push ups and are not helping you push your body away from the floor. your triceps, front delts, biceps and pectorals do that.

the orginal question was "Do pushups build forearm muscles" - the answer in simple terms is no.

it seems you have a very poor concept of body mechanics, how a body works and what each muscle or muscle group is designed to do.

as the guy above me said. your forearms are there for nothing more than grip and curling your hands/fist. nothing else. you just can't argue that fact. its not my opinion or something that can be debated.

correct! pushups don't do dick for your forearms.

if you want to buildup your forearms you perform the following exercises:

Dumbbell Wrist Curls (overhand and reverse grip)
Barbell Wrist Curls (with arms in front, behind, and even with forearms on a bench and curling your wrist with both an overhand and/or underhand grip)

Grip something notice its your forarms that are invloved.

Now take a weight and start of real light to you know what you are doing. Kneel down and lay your arm on a weight bench with your wrist at the edge. Take the dumbbell in your hand and let your hand go as far back as it can comfortably. Make sure you have a good grip on the weight. Now bring your hand upwards. And let your wrist go back slowly and do it again. If you are doing it right it won't take long for you to feel your forearms burning. If youa re doingit wrong your wrist will hurt like a motherfucker.

(you) Actually, that answer is correct!

(you) I apoligize for jumping all over you because I misread your statment.
I now realize that you do use your forearm mucles during pushups, but other excercises may isolate the mucle and work better. Just like you said.

(Me) Thanks, I thought you might have misread my statment.

(you)Yes I did.

(Me) No harm, no foul.

(you) Likewise.

Ok, were done, I did your part for you.

I would like to see you bench 350 if you supposedly weight 220. I find it hard to believe unless you are a small fat guy. That or you take roids.

there are plenty of people that can bench 400 and even 500+ at well under 200 pounds. 350 at 220 is nothing and you certainly don't need drugs to do it.

hell yeah. There's a guy at my gym that looks like a total pansy ass(sub200lbs) but benches near 400lbs

first and foremost. Pleasure Pays is correct. While your forearms may provide stablization, they are not directly used in the push up movements, up or down.

Second, if you want to build forearms, buy yourself a thich broomstick. Cut it to a 2 or 3 foot length. Drilla hole in the middle of it. Get some heavy duty nylon cord, double it up, and pass through whole. Buy some dumbells or plates. Attach them to the end of the cord.

Now, with your arms extended, at shoulder height. Roll the stick so that the weight is being lifted off the floor. Do, palm down, and palm up variations.

This has been the best excercise to build my forearms. I know it's using weights, but trust me on this, 10lbs becomes pain quickly.
