Also, at that price, I assume you're talking way off the strip, and are looking to raise $100 million as collatoral, with the rest financed. If you were thinking $100M without financing, it does not sound viable to me...either the hotel would be too small to support the other services, or it would be crappy, which doesn't sound like the market you're targetting. Old hotels on the old end of the strip are going for $500+ million, just to rip them down, and those new add-on towers the main hotels are adding can be $500+ million a pop for under 1000 rooms...and that's considered a savings because they already have the casino, restaurants, and other shared resources from the main hotel to keep the costs down.
You have done your homework, I like that. At that price, yes it would be off the strip. And you are right, they day one of the big hotels sticks a Strip Club in their hotel, they will dominate Vegas. They are not allowing this as of now.
At that price, it would have to be off the strip. I know it sounds like I am joking but these numbers can get us started.

Nice post though, thanks.

I think it would take a bit more than 100 mil to get it going. Construction is expensive on something like that, and the gaming and alcohol licenses are nuts.

My good friend Erik works for a firm that does most of the architecture work on the hotel/Casinos being built around the world. He personally designed the new bar that is going in the MGM.

Hit me up if you need consultants. He has great people.

100 GFY pornographers sharing ownership of a casino?

You think the Nevada Gaming Commission is going to go for that deal?

Good luck.

Well, guess you're not just joking. $100M would definitely get you started. There's a lot of pros in the Vegas hotel industry, and you wouldn't want to be a newb competing against them, but with capital you can hire the pros. Seems like $250 million gets you a decent-sized operation in nowhere towns or indian reservations...I'd think Vegas would make a few things cheaper and most things more expensive, but that seems like a better ballpark for a full-scale hotel casino.

Recent story on http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050211/dcf018_1.html :

"Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi is owned and operated by Premier Entertainment Biloxi, LLC, d/b/a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi. The $235 million project, scheduled to open in 2005, will include a Hard Rock- themed casino with 1,500 slot machines and 50 table games, five restaurants, including a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, a Hard Rock Cafe, a full-service spa, 11- story hotel with 317 rooms and suites, a unique Hard Rock-themed beach pool, Hard Rock Live(R), a 1,200 capacity entertainment venue, and retail shops."

Brad mentioned that concern too. I think in old Vegas, you're absolutely right, pornographers wouldn't have a chance. But I was under the impression that gaming licenses were now granted to corporations, and if the corporations are properly structured and open to auditing, the backgrounds of the shareholders isn't as important as it used to be. I could be wrong, I'm not a Vegas expert, that's just the impression I got.

I designed casino monitoring systems for a while, though generally stayed out of Vegas...should have stayed way the hell more out of Vegas, but that's another (and a long) story.

Yeah that why I had previously said....

Casino Control Comm) scrutiny and then eventually get things implemented piece by piece while showing that you are not a flash in the pan and naturally keeping your competition at bay since they aren?t likely interested in relinquishing there cushiony bottom line.

(thread bookmarked)

I am two degrees away from $700M+ Venture capital fund. I don't think they have ventured into casino industry before, but perhaps they could match the $100M you can come up with. But, imho, I don't see how this would pass the gaming commission's regs & guidelines. I won't even mention it to the vc firm until you have something more concrete... but I get a nice finders fee and X% for the introduction.

maybe we should bump this thread in a few years.

You have it all wrong. Take $20M and build a casino in Panama or a similar location. $100M in Vegas won't do much

Its a great plan, but there is MUCH more to it. You need to be approved by the Nevada Gaming commission etc etc etc.
