![]() How many ways are there to say, "See? I told you so!"...?
Back in the distant past of porn archives when Al Goldstein of SCREW Magazine had just picked himself up out of a homeless shelter and started slinging bagels, I told you this would happen. Goldstein, who used to own a huge mansion in Florida with a big middle finger statue in the backyard for everyone to see as they went by with their boat, said that everyone had turned their back on him. He said all of his porn buddies had left him out to dry, which could be true for all I know. I said there is no way that a guy who has been this deeply involved in the business just turns it over and lives happily in a quiet community in the food services industry. Al's got a taste of the celebrity porn star bug and that's all it takes. Once you get it, you're a goner. Sure enough, here comes Al, working in a highly lucrative position for X On Demand. Goldstein claims he got six really sweet offers after AVN ran a story on him wanting to come back to the biz but this deal was the sweetest. According to MJ McMahon, the brilliant and phantom writer over at AVN Dot Com, Goldstein was given the security of a five-year contract and six-figure deal from the VoD company. ?It?s a win-win situation. Our company needs national exposure and Al needs not to sell bagels,? XonDemand president Frank Ryan told AVNOnline.com. ?Give the guy a little dignity. He has a history most of us couldn?t even dream about and I?ve come to really appreciate it. He?s up there.? Apparantly XonDemand is hoping to utilize Goldstein?s notoriety, his fiery spirit and love of publicity, to grow their company and make a true mainstream push. His contacts don't hurt either to be real honest about it. Al is 69 years old for those of you who care and he has a home now, in Staten Island, New York, where he plans to do most of his work. I guess all's well that ends well, eh kiddies? |
