The IRS is sooo fucking stupid!

I recently had some, um, TAX PROBLEMS (meaning I didn't bother to pay them for a few years.....). The IRS slammed me into a wall, we hired an attorney, got it all settled and paid up. Fine.

After it's all over the IRS calls me and says "oh, by the way, you still haven't filed for 2001". I didn't? I get off the phone, check my records, and I see that I did file and got $2k back - I even have a copy of the canceled check. I call back and confirm with the IRS - they still say I didn't file.

So, I filed my 2001 taxes. Again.

And this morning I got a check in the mail for $2k.

IS ANYONE PAYING ATTENTION OVER THERE?

Call em up again and tell them you havent filed your taxes for 2001.

Lather, rinse, repeat - As many times as necessary for them to realize their errors ;)

Regards,

Lee

For the years that you didn't pay taxes, did you think they would just forget you or overlook it or something? What was your reason for not paying?

Carry on.

Most of the large governement agencies have such a vast array of outdated computer systems and networks that if the truth be known how bad it is the country would go into a tailspin. Many of the networks can't even communicate with other networks.

Its hard to believe but even agencies like the FBI are still operating with completely screwball computers that don't function the way they were intended. The FBI until recently was processing case files manually.

The NSA even finally admitted its just physically impossible for them to keep up with the volumes of intelligence data being collected daily and most of it just gets archived never to be analysed properly because there just aren't enough human eyes to do it.

In addition to computer systems the IRS has for decades had a lot of staffing problems. They are overwhelmed with so much data being collected into such a complex tax law calculating system that mistakes and errors are unavoidable. Another uge problem is from the millions of illegal aliens that use bogus SS cards in the US to get jobs. All that income gets linked to SS numbers that incorrectly match up to peoples tax files.

Plus you have zillions of 1099 forms that don't synch or have errors. You have 20 percent of the population moving to new residences and people don't update their addresses so you end up with dual addresses in the system or incorrect ones. You have women that get married and then the last names change and things get further confused in the computer systems. You have tens of millions of people that have just given up trying to comply and have fallen out of the sytem.

There was a big discovery that made the news several years ago where the field offices got so far behind processing tax returns that the workers got to the point of frustration where they just dumped tens of thousands of records into boxes and either stashed them away or sent them to the dumpsters. The workers were afraid it would make their departments look bad if they couldn't keep up with the flow so they just tossed stuff out.

The Social Security system is notorious for sending people checks incorrectly.

The defense department is another massive agency handling hundreds of billions of dollars that is loaded with mistakes and outright fraudulent processing of payments or payments on bogus invoicing. Haliburton was just in the news for that for its contract to feed the troops in Iraq.

So all in all when you have a government that has to handle and process trillions of pieces of information, payments, and records, its amazing it even works as well as it does.

How can you still get 2k anyway? Aren't they supposed to get penalties (interests..) after so many years ?
