TShirtHell.com removes Worse Than Hell category

damn, that shit was my favorite too

Quote:
A MESSAGE FROM THE CREATOR OF TSHIRTHELL.COM
My name is Aaron Schwarz and I own T-Shirt Hell. Because of that, I can do whatever the fuck I want. I woke up one morning and decided I didn't want to have a, "Worse Than Hell" section, so I took it down.

We always said there was no line we wouldn't cross, but even then there really was still a line. There were always subjects we wouldn't touch. So now we've moved the line. Sometimes people grow, and change, and gain perspective. There are some shirts we just don't feel comfortable making and we're not going to make them any more. Those are the shirts we took down.

For the record, there were no outside influences. There was no lawsuit. I wasn't visited in the middle of the night by The Nation of Islam, and my girlfriend did not give birth to a gay, black, autistic baby.

There was no desire to go "mainstream" to pick up endorsements or advertising. There will not be a T-Shirt Hell ride at Disneyworld, and we are not going to sponsor Ashley Simpson's next tour. Her next anal gangbang video maybe, but not her tour.

There are still plenty of juicy targets out there. Not to mention a whole world of sex and drugs and rock and roll. Your mom will still probably refuse to put your T-Shirt Hell shirt in with the rest of the laundry, afraid it will corrupt the socks.

We only cater to our own tastes and that's worked for us in the past. If you still enjoy what we do, keep shopping. If you don't, I guess you'll go somewhere else.

I don't see this as a radical change for T-Shirt Hell. Most subjects are still fair game. I hope you'll stick around. And if you don't, I want to thank you for your past support and I hate to see you go. (Editor's Note: If you don't understand it when someone puts it politely, try this: Go fuck yourself you sad little douchebag. Gargle with Drano, jump off an overpass with the bungee cord around your neck, and use your last breathe to lick my beautiful, black ass.) I think the best is yet to come.

PRESS RELEASE ON THE MATTER
Quote:
Internet's most visited t-shirt company, T-Shirt Hell, removes most offensive shirts - Apologizes.
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 2005?Las Vegas based internet company T-Shirt Hell.com used to be home to the most offensive t-shirts on the internet. With shirts that made light of everything from 9/11, to School Shootings, to the recent Tsunami; T-Shirt Hell truly lived up to its name.

But as of today, that?s no longer true. Founder, Owner, and President Aaron Schwarz has decided to take down the most offensive shirts in his inventory. In fact, he?s removed the entire ?Worse Than Hell? category from his website.

?It was always my goal to make outrageous t-shirts.? said Schwarz. ?It was always my intention to make people laugh. But a lot of people were needlessly hurt and upset by the shirts on our website, and for that I want to apologize. Schwarz is ready to put his money where his mouth is. This year he is looking to donate up to 30% of his profits to charities that are involved with the groups, and events he used to make fun of, if they will accept them.

When asked where he goes from here, Schwarz was optimistic. ?Worse Than Hell? comprised less than 20% of our shirts. We still have plenty of insane, dirty, twisted shirts that you won?t find in the local mall. As for our loyal fans, I hope they?ll continue to be just that: loyal.

I started this web site on my terms and will continue to run it as I see fit. Removing shirts that affect many people in a negative way is just not exciting to me anymore and that doesn?t make me lame or a sell out. It would only be a sell out if I sold shirts that I no longer agreed with just to make a profit. It would be lame to let someone else tell me how to run my business. I still have a great team. We still have the best artists, and the most talented writers, and we will continue to make the most kick ass t-shirts around.

Alright, so who wants to pick up where they left off with me? I wonder what kind of a market they left open by taking that section down?

I was thinking along the same lines, perhaps the sales dont warrant keeping them any longer. He has the notoriety because of it, but makes his money selling the more acceptable shirts

Franck / Battus actually wore it in Phoenix to the Phoenix Forum....I know he thought he was just super cool....I was just waiting for him to experience a bit of "American" culture stepping outside the Hotel and being seen by the right person.

They still have great shirts for sale.

Does anyone remember when they started out? I first saw them on ebay and back then it was all black shirts with plain white letters. They have improved a ton.

Oh and I will say as I said on all t-shirt hell threads...those guys suck.
99.9% of their shit was unoriginal, sophmoric drivel that appealed to unoriginal, sophmoric webmasters.
I have not found one of their shirts funny...ever.

I don't think it was the sales of those shirts themselves that made the dollars. Simply having them on the site was the money maker. It kept people talking about the site and linking to it. Take away those shirts and unless major $'s are spent advertising to keep the branding going the site will start to fade.

Gotta agree about wearing them though for the most part, although I'd wear the pope one.

it seemed like they were scamming design work by putting up ads on Monster.com last month and in March, having people apply for the job (lead designer) and do test projects for them, and then when they would get the work (exactly as they had asked for) they told everyone they werent the right person for the job. I know this because I applied along with three other designers I know. Who knows, maybe they didnt like our names or something else, but it felt pretty fishy to me.

Many of those would result in getting your ass kicked bigtime...no matter where you live..

Most of that section worked more like a publicity stunt tho...

kinda sad to see it go tho

Publicity stunt..
Those shirts will be back. They love the controversy.
What would get more controversy? Pulling the shirts for good or pulling the shirts for a while and then putting them back out? Their traffic hit nearly record levels when this news came out. You can bet that people still found something to buy on the front page. These guys aren't dumb...

Here is the newsletter they sent out a few days before they pulled the Worse Than Hell category. Read this and then decide if you think they really pulled it out of the goodness of their heart or they did it for the money.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have a new Pope, who used to be a member of the Hitler Youth. The
official Vatican Biographer says, "Let's not make a big deal out of this.
He was very young, and didn't show much enthusiasm for it." Apparently, he
lost interest when he realized just how long it took to cook a Jew with only
his Easy Bake Oven."

[We Have New Shirts For A New You: The Old You Sucked.]

Can you believe George Lopez took his wife's kidney when he found out his
kidneys were failing? Man, those Mexicans will take anything if you don't
watch them.

We have five new shirts this week. If you are not a sports fan, but you're
still a player; if you're hard of hearing, or if you're tired of dead baby
jokes; we have a shirt for you. And did I mention the free lap dance? We
added a new Britney Spears shirt right as we sent the last newsletter. So
in case you missed it, I threw that in, too.

Subject: ARREST BLACK BABIES

I was insulted to see that tee shirt being marketed. I just hope that you
have come to your senses and removed that from stock and burned the
remaining ones. If not i hope one day that your daughter or granddaughter
gets fucked real bad by a black man and produces a child and then you can
let them wear it.

(Editor's Note: I don't know why you're insulted. You want my daughter to
be fucked really bad by a black man. How about you? I'm sure that you're
a black man who fucks really bad. I'll bet that you're quick, that you cry,
and that your tiny limp dick would get you laughed out of the steam room in
Chinatown. Jackie Chan would snicker and point at you in the shower, and
then fuck you in the ass while doing a back flip off of the ceiling. Since,
I'm black, all of my offspring are automatically black no matter what you
say about being 'multiracial' Mr. Tiger Woods, you white chick banging, self
hating mongrel. But nobody is going to fuck my children but me. And once
they turn five and stop being so sexy; they're going straight to prison
where they belong.)
