its funny how people take a simple statement and run with it

i did not say 90% of what you alluded to.
i didn not say fat people are any less worthy because their fat or any other irrelevent remark you mentioned.

i said

fat people are not happy being fat

and anyone who says they are happy being fat is a liar.

you wanna talk about HEALTHY?

OK

you say "as long as im healthy and happy with who I am, I have better things to do with my time then obsess over my size."

and you call me ignorant?

maybe if you spent more time thinking about my post instead of defending being obese, you would really understand the true meaning of my post which wasnt mean spirited or meant to make fun of a pesron suffering from obesity.

what is has done is made you and a few others think about your/their weight.

and there isnt ONE positive thing about being fat.

Obesity is on verge of surpassing smoking as #1 cause of preventable death.

obesity facilitates the following;

diabetes

heart disease

Hypertension

Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides)

Stroke

Gallbladder disease

Osteoarthritis

Sleep apnea and respiratory problems

Some cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)

gallstones.

Liver disease.

Lifespan cut short by obesity.

Osteoarthritis, a disease in which the joints deteriorate.

Gout, another disease affecting the joints.

Reproductive problems in women, including menstrual irregularities and infertility. cancer of the gallbladder, breast, uterus, cervix, or ovaries

Obesity reduces overall well-being of children.

Obesity a factor in increase of disability.

I'm not trying to change your mind, I'm just stating my own piece. I never said you stated fat peeps were less worthy or whatever, I was just stating my mind. You don't have to like it, and you had every right to reply, but I disagree. And that has nothing to do with BEING fat, because there are thin people who would agree with me, too. I don't have any of those health problems, and I lead an active and healthy lifestyle, as I tried to illustrate in my post-not every fat person lies on the couch snacking on chips all day.

But it's ok-I accept your opinion; it just differs from mine, and I just didn't like being told how I felt by someone who has never sat down and had an even 5 minute conversation with me, that's all.

youre taking this personal and its not.

im not speaking of the person im speaking of the body.

ok so youre active - 99% of fat people arent - hence theyre fat.

and dont think because your active your not susceptible to obesity related diesases.

how can you claim to live a healthy lifestyle and be fat?

thats like saying you smoke ciggs and you practice a healthy lifestyle.

AGAIN, the point of the conversation was theres nothing positive about being Fat and those people who suffer from obesity who say there happy being fat are in denial.

obese people suffer 5 times more from depression than the average person.

wonder why?

I hate those 13-16 year old chunky girls who hang around at the malls with their miss priss skinny friendss and dress as slutty as them. I mean come on, you really think you fit in and look like your friends when I see a big deep belly button bearing gut hanging out of the bottom of your shirt and the back of your pants hardly covering that crack from behind and chest fat that hangs out past your tits above your shirt line? I find it highly offensive. If I wanted to see belly, crack and chest lumps hanging out I would join a BBW site.

I don't think I am taking it personally-I'm not insulted at all, truthfully.

But this is what I am getting at:

"AGAIN, the point of the conversation was theres nothing positive about being Fat and those people who suffer from obesity who say there happy being fat are in denial."
I like who I am, and I'm not in denial-I'm only making your statement personal so you see that if there is one person who doesn't fit in the box (pardon the pun, hahahah) chances are there are more...but even one disproves your theory, which you can't prove because you don't know how other people feel...all you know is how YOU would feel in that situation.

That's all. I understand that you don't believe I could feel that way, and that's ok. You are right, it does feel like this debate won't do anything but eventually cause hard feelings where there is no reason for any. Agree to disagree, I suppose, lol.

You take care too.

Oh, to answer your question, to me, leading a healthy lifestyle means this:
I don't smoke.
I don't do drugs.
I only drink once a month or less, and I haven't gotten piss-ass drunk in so long, I can't remember.
I get outside with my kids for at least an hour or two every day after school, weather permitting. (bike-riding, playing basketball, baseball, soccer, or just raking leaves or whatnot) And on rainy or very cold days, we do something indoors, though naturally it isn't as active. On weekends, at least one of the days we have a full-day outing; hiking, exploring trails out here in the Withlacoochee State Forest, swimming in fresh-water springs, camping, fishing, whatever we feel like doing.
I eat six small meals a day instead of three large ones, but my portions are small, and I eat balanced meals-much along the lines of Bill Phillip's Eating for Life program.
I've always been a larger framed girl, very solid and muscular, but I've had three c-sections, and nursed three babies, and even though I only gained 7 pounds with one baby, and actually lost 2 with my last, I put on weight after I stopped nursing-like my metabolism didn't take note that the extra calories weren't necessary anymore. I have three kids, two of them 3 and under-so I have never been one to pig out and lounge around all day. In fact, until last year when I became proactive and actually started investigating how the body processes food, I THOUGHT I was doing the right thing by eating less and less (that's what fat people hear all the time-EAT LESS AND YOU WON"T BE FAT!!). Most days I wouldn't slow down to eat a bite until 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I didn't realize that I was scaring my metabolism into hoarding all the excess calories. That made a lot of sense to me-after I weaned my babies, I already had a metabolism used to cranking it out, then it thought I was starving it when it was ok for me to "diet" and it held on to every morsel I ate. Viola-instant recipe for packing on twenty pounds after each baby. Now I know better, and I don't just eat to lose weight, because that's what got me in this mess in the first place. Now I just eat to survive. That's healthy to me, and I FEEL like a million bucks since I started paying better attention to my nutritional needs, rather than my scale.

This guy cracks me up. He speaks as though he knows exactly how I, chase, sarah, etc. feel but, in reality, he has no clue whatsoever.

Jonesy - - here's a bit of old advice:

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

points taken

people sometimes take anothers strong point of view the wrong way, especially on this board and it seems we both are understanding of this hence the convo is cool and this wont turn into anything but a regualr conversation cause were not attacking each other ect. no reason too either!

once again please dont feel this is a personal attack - you didnt need to defend or explain your lifestyle but i understand and appreciate that you did.

i dont doubt you could feel any way but positive about yourself but that wasnt my point.

most people do.

but

ill ask this and be done. (mrs lenny if your reading you chime in too!)

if you had a choice between being fat or average which would you choose?

Holy shit-never thought a fat debate on GFY would be so civilized, haha!

Well, to answer your question, I'm really not sure...
There are pros and cons to both, from my pov, and while it would be nice to be able to shop at whatever store I wanted, and wear a two-piece on the beach..it seems like most of the pros of being average sized would be external, and I like the way my feeling about myself comes from the inside now-something I think I've only learned and gained through the crap I've waded through from people treating me like shit because I was big. I think if I was average sized I wouldn't have been challenged enough to find that inner strength and so I would probably still be looking for approval from outside sources. Look at most average sized women, (NOT porn sized women...truthfully, average sized women are thicker than the very svelte types we see posted here): they feel like shit about themselves..they are always trying to live up to perfection (who's version of perfection, I don't know, but that's a whole other rant, haha!) and falling short of that impossible goal. I'm not sure I would want to go back to that kind of unsure feeling about myself. I guess it's kind of like people who lose a limb or something and find themselves better people afterwards and say they wouldn't want to go back.

I am not trying to convince people to change what they are attracted to-I know YOU get this, but I just want it stated in case anyone else misunderstands me. If fat chicks aren't your thing, no worries, just move on to the next thin hottie, lol. (I'll probably be checking them out, too!) ~Saying "sorry, not my type" is not bashing, but being cruel to people who have done nothing to you but not fit in your idea of what's attractive just makes you look ugly on the inside.~ Again, I am not accusing you of any such thing, just trying to establish my point here, and why I always try to participate in fat threads.

To me, there is beauty in all types of women-and I think a confident woman who is comfortable in her own skin is sexy-no matter whether she be a size 0 or a size 22.

I don't know that I could honestly answer that question. I've been heavy since puberty (thanks to PCOS) and haven't known any other way of life. To some extent, I identify with the stance that chase has taken. Had I not been heavy, I might not be the person I am today. In comparison to other, average-size women, I think I am more tolerant of others. While I still have my pet peeves, I (try to) treat everyone equally. Don't get me wrong, I'm not generalizing and saying that all average-size women treat people badly, I'm just saying that I think I'm more tolerant of others. And, like chase, I don't obsess over my body or the size of it.

Obviously, being of average size has its health benefits but, at 34 years of age, I have no health problems. I have normal blood pressure, cholesterol levels, etc. Yes, I do have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) but it, in and of itself, isn't a "serious" health problem for me. It has, however, been the cause of my large stature. As I mentioned in another thread, had I been diagnosed and properly medicated at its onset, I may not have had to endure the weight gain or ridicule from my peers and many adults. If you're not familiar with PCOS and would like to learn more about it, visit this web site - - http://www.pcosupport.org/.

While my earlier comment/advice wasn't meant as a personal attack, it does ring true in some instances regarding this thread. There have been general statements made about heavy people that are completely untrue. Unless you've been in someone's shoes, you have no clue how they feel.
