Need some wireless/WiFi help please? - GoFuckYourself.com

Any suggestions on how to find the source of new wifi dead-spots in my house? My laptop has never had any wireless connection problems before, but suddenly, I am getting disconnected every couple of minutes. It seems to only be in a couple areas of my house, but it always worked there before, and I haven?t added any new wireless devices. I?ve made sure my settings are correct, and have updated my wireless adapter drivers, but still no luck. Any suggestions?

Microwave. cordless phone...? Made any changes to your setup?
Take a look at the Belking Pre-n series, say goodbye to those kind of problems.

Is your signal strength in those areas weak/good or is it constantly changing?

That's my guess too... Don't they make little WiFi detectors for setting up wireless networks and detecting wireless fields?

That's the thing... I haven't changed anything. One day it worked, and the next day it didn't...

they do but if youve got SP2 then just look at find wifi network and itll tell you whats in the area...

SP2 is excellent for wireless info. As said before just check all available networks and then try moving things about (phone etc) to see what goes on there.

Vanilla I had the EXACT same problem and it turned out to be my new cordless phone...

Had the same cordelss phn for years, and the wireless worked fine until a week or so ago... that's what makes me think it is something outside of our house.

Right, but how do I tell which one of the other networks shown is the culprit, and how to block that interference?

check the signal strength and view which channels they are using, then change your channels accordingly. Alot of manufacturers set their channels to be the same, so if someone nextdoor gets the same brand router, you get interference

Yeah switch channels, theyre always on 11, set it to a diff channel...
