An Affiliate wants my model's phone number
I just had an affiliate email saying he needs the models' full name, address and phone numbers to be 2257 compliant. This guy hasn't sent a sale and isn't even American. I hope he just is an innocent un-informed webmaster that doesn't know better. The reality is this is what is so damn scary about this law. We have to protect our models not put them in harms way.

Sad but it is reality. Shap what worries me is ( barring an injuction or change to current law) in 6months when things calm down a bit and people are a little more relaxed with the info ( as I am certain will happen in some cases) , or programs get desperate again to provide, provide, provide this is when we will start to see issues like this turn into something more.

A good point that got made at the FSC meeting in San Diego this weekend:
- Don't give your records to any "Secondary Producers" without having them first sign confidentiality agreements, etc.

No doubt that ids and a phone interview will scare some of the bad folks away however how many will not be freightened and how many will be fake ids?
How will a confidentiality agreement prevent anything bad from happening? How will you be able to distinguish the bad guy when you've given it to 1000 webmasters? When the first 'bad' thing happens - hopefully it's not a death but who becomes liable - the sponsor that gave it to the 'webmaster/surfer/rapist/stalker/serial killer'? the producer that gave it to the sponsor? or the DOJ that came up with this cockameny idea in the first place? |

2257 does NOT require that a producer get any other information than the models' name, AKAs and a photo ID.
It does NOT require any other contact information be provided. No telephone numbers and no addresses. If any affiliate asks you for this information they are more than likely trying to scam it out of you or they are totally ignorant and can't read the 2257 regs. Just DON'T do it!

Maybe the programs that are forced to hand out id's ( yes there are a few that feel there is no other way) should require from the affiliate.
Name copy of D/L copy of Electric Bill and the name and number of their legal counsel. After the above info is verified then MAYBE they can think about giving id's to productive affiliates with a long term relationship with their program. The requirement of verifiable legal counsel will keep the hobby webmaster and stalkers away with a greater degree of success. All others can use softcore and FHG's that wont cause the need for them to obtain and hold any records. ---------------------------- This space NOT for Rent |

It's interesting seeing the 2257 debate on releasing of crucial information to prove a model is over the age of 18 years. Especially when congress is discussing measures to help 'protect' Americans better from identity theft. Couple that with the 'revelation' that the biggest area of growth for identity theft is online. Seems like another amazing government contridiction, huh?
The identification information should only be released to those legitimate affiliates you conduct business with. A confidentiality agreement is a good touch. If you have any doubts or questions about their legitimacy or are afraid to release the info, have them go to text links. If you are certain they are stakers or someone trying to take advantage of a shitty system, have them send you their ID and forward them the phone number of NAMBLA.
