Fuck Mercedes Benz!

18 months ago I bought a new ML350.It has 28k on it now.Last week the brake light came on.I called the dealer and they said to bring it in.After they finished replacing all the brake pads they gave me a bill for $488.00.They said Mercedes does NOT stand behind their brake systems.

The service manager mentioned I was lucky the rotors weren't shot or it would've been another grand.

And this is at a dealership where I have purchased 4 BMW's 2 Porsche's and the Benz..
It is the last MB i will ever own.
I can understand that quality problems will happen.I can't understand that the manufacturer dooes't stand behind those problems.

No dealer in Europe will pay for your brake pads on any car bmw/mercedes doesn't matter as well as they will not pay for for the tires.

The M3smg has been nothing short of fantastic. The only reason I am looking at trading is I ordered it in carbon black/cinnamon.Gorgeous car when it's clean..But it's nearly impossible to keep it that way.

I am going to have to start really liking the new Bangle designs in the 5 series.
The new M5 is looking better every minute.

Yeah cleaning is annoying. Mine is schwarz too .. i think you really need the 'gold' version if you want a really shiny ride.

The m5 series is really really beautiful but at the moment, it's too much $ for me.

It's not about the money. It's about the fact that a highend automobile manufacturer doesn't stand behind the quality of the product. If the brakes would've failed at 14,000 miles it wouldn't matter to MB.I had to spend nearly three hours of my time waiting to get this serviced.I should send them an invoice for my time.

If you buy a vehicle used with lots of miles, you expect to spend some time and money keeping it roadworthy. When you spend the dollars on a new MB you expect to drive it.

Think about using firestone for breaks instead.

Your brake system didn't fail. Brake pads are a friction component and to function properly HAVE to wear-out, like tires.

Mercedes does stand behind the "brake system". Like some of the folks here said, it's the pads. I have an ML500 and I replace the pads about every 10K miles because I drive at high speeds. I do the LA - Vegas trip every other week and when you have to hit the brakes at 120 MPH the pads wear fast. The pads provided by the dealer are soft. I was told by the mechanic that I could get harder pads but they would squeak.

Stick with it. The vehicle is better than you may believe. I had a blowout at 115 MPH and I didn't even know it until the noise from the thrasing of the tire started getting very loud.

$488 isnt bad for brakes on a MB. I blow thru $500 on brakes for my Durango each year that spends most of its time running between Philly and Ashburn Va at high speeds

At least you didnt need a rotor shave and resurface.

BMW Full Maintenance. A whole different kind of fulfillment.

Maintenance is one of many hidden costs to consider when you?re looking at a car?s sticker price. For most cars, that is. Fortunately, BMW offers one of the most comprehensive maintenance programs in its class. Not that service is needed often, only every 15,000 miles or so. Just about anything your BMW might need replaced or serviced?brake pads, wiper blades, oil change, checkup?is fully covered for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.* Which will save you money and simplify your operating instructions considerably: Fill with gas. Point to horizon. Go.

Maintenance costs for 4 years/50,000 miles, whichever comes first:*

? Brake Pads: $0
? Brake Rotors: $0
? Engine Belts: $0
? Oil Changes: $0
? Wiper Blades: $0
? Inspections: $0

I have been driving BMW's for 10 years.I've owned 5 of them and currently have two..I've never spent a penny on maintenance.

I dont see how this is out of line - you almost always pay more for dealership service, and 28k on a set of brake pads is pretty good

That really is not the case.Compare prices for similar BMW's and MB's.They are basically the same base prices.A similar AUDI with a lower base price supports the best warranty program in the industry.

Like i've already said.Any company whether it's Mercedes or KIA should stand behind the quality of their product.

I wouldn't like this either... especially in his situation. He bought 6 cars before from that dealership and he's used to get such services for free (I guess not only for his BMW's but also for his Porsche's). Then he buys a Mercedes and suddenly he has to pay for it.

And to the people that say this is completely normal... this really depends on your dealership and it doesn't matter whether you're in the US/Canada or in Europe. Some dealers will just do it for free (like in 12clicks' case). With other dealers you can talk about such stuff before you get the car.
