Rant: New Parents

What the fuck is wrong with parents these days anyway? Seriously. When I was a child, It's wasn't OK for me and my sister to yell and scream and fight in public. We actually had to be polite and respectful towards adults. Somewhere along the way a new breed of parent (d)evolved; Selfish Parentus.

Selfish Parentus can be found screaming through a parking lot in their brand new mini van with blatant disregard for anyone in sight but proudly flying their "child on board" sticker in the back window. What the hell is that for? I can already tell you're a fucking tool from your driving skill, no need to confirm it for me by letting me know that you've actually got children in your terror sled on top if it all. What the hell is that sticker for anyway? I tell you if I'm ever heading straight in to a sure fire accident, I'm fucking looking FOR that sticker as a god damned target.

You're the same god damned idiot who's kids are screaming on the street at 7:30AM. Shit, if you're awake everyone else MUST be too. I mean after all you are the center of the fucking Universe and we all orbit your great mass of parenthood. God forbid I should listen to any type of music after 9:15 either because junior needs his rest so he can be up at the crack of fucking dawn screaming bloody blue murder under my window.

In short I fucking hate you. Each and everyone of you sniveling, wife-dominated, mini-van driving mother fuckers.

Remember, children are the future, unless we stop them now.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the super powers.

BEING A PARENT DOESN'T GIVE YOU SUPER POWERS.

You're still the same fucking shlep you were before you had kids. You aren't any stronger, faster or better. You're just a little more beaten down by the wife, that's about it. Ever watch Fear Factor? Ever notice someone's always "I'm doing it for my kids!"? Ever notice that same fucker always goes out ASAP too. Kids or no kids, you suck.

WarChild, I totally agree. Parents are idiots these days. Just today I was in the store and this kid behind me was with his dad and he grabbed a drink out of the fridge near the counter, and his dad said 'you know that is ice tea, not caramel' and the kid (must of been about 5) turned and yelled at his dad 'i dont care i like it', so his dad bought it for him. All these idiots trying to do everything for their children and give them everything, and let them do whatever they like with no regard for anyone else just fuck up their own kids lives. Little shitheads turn into big shitheads.

The majority of kids born were accidents. So were their parents. This is the world we live in.

Moron, not every parent is like that. Most are actually good cautious drivers. That sticker is to make it aware that children are on board and to drive carefully around them. If you see it as a target, fine, but be forewarned, hit someone with kids in their car and you run the risk of being either beaten to death, beaten to death by bystanders some more and/or publicly lynched by the media. Personally I would probably rip a few limbs off your body and beat you with the, if you ran into me when my baby was in the car... Also... it's not being a parent that makes minivan drivers idiots, it's the false sense of security that big vehicles bring with it. SUV drivers, Van drivers, Truck drivers... all the same. Doesn;t take being a parent to drive like an idiot.

Your attitute is very disrespectful and dangeous.

As for screaming kids.. yeah it happens. Kids scream. You're telling me that you never screamed? Never fought with your siblings and were a perfect angel?

Learn to deal with it or move out of family neighborhoods.

Couldn't agree more WC, but as you're seeing already, it's a verboten subject on GFY.

Because each of these parents here is just like every other parent on Earth: THEIR child and parenting skillz are top notch, and woe be it for anyone to critique their ability in that area.

They're happy to show you endless pictures of their bundles of joy, which "changed their lives forever", along with all the other cliche hyperbolee. And of course each of their kids will NOT wind up a worthless crack Ho or an incarcerated criminal, but will instead be President of the United States, and/or the Doctor that cures cancer.

Let it go now before it gets ugly...DarkJedi played with this topic last month and they had to throw in the towell even for him lol.

PS - My contribution to the actual thread: Movie theater horrors.

You can't even fucking go SEE a movie these days because baby-sitters are so expensive that it forces lower-middle income families to think they're justified in bringing extremely young kids into PG-13 and even R rated movies. Thus people like us have to deal with the obligatory child screaming/crying explosion somewhere in the middle of the flick, at random intervals (due to more than one family bringing their future Nobel Peace Prize winner to my fucking movie).

What the fuck is wrong with parents...if you can't afford to have a babysitter and lead a semi-normal life, don't fucking have kids. Tough luck. Make money first, THEN experience the "wonders" of parenthood.

Actually, the preponderance of rotten kids is due to the overuse of The Mother's Curse:

"I hope that when you grow up, your kids will be just like you."

LOL that may be!

Seriously though, every generation bitches about the next-generation's lack of parenting skills, but this time...jesus, the gap between ourselves (I'm 33) and our parents (mine are 59) seems colossal.

We're idiots at parenting, and frankly from what I see, extremely lazy.

No fucking doubt.

Although my mom kept on top of us all the time and look how I turned out. *SOME* people *MIGHT* say I'm a little umm, difficult, at times. Naturally they'd be wrong but still they might say it.

WHo said anything about being a super man? ALl I am saying is a parent will stop at nothing to protect their children.

Are you even a parent? How could you possibly understand anything about parenting?

Why are you so bitter towards children and normal people.

You must have realized by now that you're not all there in the head. You're so full of hate, agnst and general retartedness that not even you could ignore it. It's pathetic. You must have been the kid that everyone looked to as what not to be while in school. Mad at teh world, assuming shit about everyone, insulting everyone left right and center and thinking your opinions actually mean anything to anyone.

news flash moron. You're the type of people that drive parents into meltdown. You're disrespectful, ignorant and a danger for kids to be around.

I feel sorry for all your neighbors. Having someone as stupid as you around must drop the property value quite a bit.

I'm through with you. Go eat a fat bag of dicks you flaming homo.

i used to live in a neighborhood where this family had some kids and at certain times they would shriek, and I mean SHRIEK and YELL, AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS, for HOURS. I don't know wtf their parents were thinking, but these kids were just shrieking, not just yelling while playing but they were shrieking in a really high pitch at the top of their lungs... Like they wanted to see who could scream the loudest.

I would be submitting galleries and covering my ears at the same time. I have no idea what the hell these kids and their parents were thinking. I didn't want to deal with it so I never said anything. One time when my boyfriend came over he had to leave and we got in a fight because of it. He was like "How can you STAND this neighborhood, what is wrong with those people?"

Well, good thing is I don't live there anymore. It was also a decent neighborhood, not the ghetto or anything. Just really annoying kids.

Wow you barely even baited him WC and he went Incredible Hulk...typical overly dramatic parent. Reminds me of male Alpha gorillas that run around beating their chests going all apeshit to put on a show to keep threats away from the pack...luckily we're not gorillas. Chest-thumping and insult throwing has no affect.

Let me give you a hint though "iwantchixxx" (rofl nice nick Dad): The biggest danger to your children, is other children. Specifically the children being raised by shithead parents, which seem to be very common. These kids will be the first to help your kids experience the wonders of drug use, early teen-sex, shoplifting, and all the other wonderful things kids today seem to be doing even earlier than we did.

WarChild is not someone to fear. Other kids, and their parents, are.

It has to be pretty bad, because when Laurie and I go out with our kids shopping we actually get compliments on how well behaved our kids are from the clerks, just because they aren't screeming and demanding things. An example happend just the other day, there is a coffee house around the corner and we all walk there in the mornings before I start working. Next to the cash register there is a huge glass case with cakes and pastries, and even as an adult with some self control I have trouble turning down one of the treats. One of my twins (he's 3) sees the giant cookies and asks if they can have one and I tell him "not today, maybe next time we come in." He looked sad for a moment but then he moved along to notice something else and forgot all about it. Then after the owner gave me my coffee she actually pulled me aside and complimented me on how well behaved the kids were, she said anytime that someone brings their kids in the store they just scream and demand things and cry if they don't get them. We get compliments like that a lot. And it always surprises me. My kids are 3 and 5 and they understand that there is a certain way that are expected to behave. I think a lot of it has to do with expectations. I've seen toddlers throwing insane tamtrums, screeming and fighting and hitting people. And their parents just saying "Oh that's just what toddlers do." No, no it's not what toddlers do. None of my 3 kids have ever done that, ever. A lot of people don't realize that parenting is an active process. It's not just reacting to the things a child does. If you, as a parent, create situations where a child can learn the way they are expected to behave they will figure it out quickly. Kids are smart, and their brains are designed to sort out cultural norms through observation, they've been doing it for a million years. The thing is TV can't teach it. And I think that is where a lot of people fail.

What abt when mothers say "Wait till your dad get home from work,,,then you'll be in trouble"

I just wanna puke on women who say that. The dad is out working hard for the family all day the long and the mom can't control the kids so she says dad is gonna punish them when he gets home.

WTF is that? Now the kid is scared of his father when he comes home from work. And all the dad wants to do is enjoy the little time he can spend with his kids.

That like coming home from work to see that you dog pissed on the floor 5 hours ago,,,so you rub his nose in it and yell at him. That just teaches the dog to fear the owner when the owner comes home.

It's because people don't want the damned responsibility. They want the status symbol of "look I'm a business man/woman and I have a kid, respect me!". Mean while, the wastes of space are dragging down the collective intelligence of the world by brainwashing this will-be-pansy into believing he's the next Jesus Christ and everyone has to worship him and do as he asks or they aren't 'good people'. And I agree 110% with the 'Child on board' stuff. No what I do when I see a car with that? Run'em into a utility poll! Shake the kid up a bit, closest the kid'll ever get to reality since his parents take'em directly from the car to his little protective bubble in the house where he has to spend the rest of his child life being brainwashed.

So... you're saying it's ok for you to blast music at night while others might be sleeping..
but not ok for kids to play outside and make noise while you might be sleeping?

Just a tad selfish and hypocritical.. don't ya think?

No .. What I'm actually saying is, I *DON'T* blast music at night, because I know full well the children next door are sound asleep. What I don't get in return is the same courtesy.

i TOTALLY agree with Warchild!!!

This has become the era of non-parenting parents. Just because you had sex & had a kid out of it, does not make you automatically a "parent", btw.

I see kids SCREAMING in the middle of stores "MOMMY I WANT THIS!! GIVE ME THISS!! NOWWW!!"

My mother would have BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF ME IN PUBLIC for not only acting that way (public or not) but also for being selfish AND also for embarressing her.

There is NOTHING wrong with discipline. I know the way I turned out, and I also know what my mother (who was a single parent of 2 daughters, god bless her!) did to achieve that. SHE PUT THE FEAR OF GOD INTO US! Thats all it takes. One time. I never called her bluff after that.

I'm up all night, and I don't blast music or do anything to disturb the neighbors.. however that doesn't give me any right to bitch when the neighbors are mowing their lawns at 9AM when I'm just hitting REM..
courtesy doesn't enter into it. most people don't maintain a night schedule, but I do... so I have to deal with normal daytime background noise while I'm sleeping.

BTW.. I agree with you about lack of parenting..

When I'm out with my daughter and see how other kids are acting i just have to laugh. even though i'm disgusted.

It doesn't take much effort to keep your kid civilized and well behaved.

Amen to that. I remember my dad doing the same damn thing to me. Now parents are afraid of hitting the kid cause the kid might cry if they do that. Almost every time I see one of these kids pulling the "I want that now!" deals and the parents gives in without even thinking about it, I thank my parents.

And I can't stand how these failure wanna-be parents feel they HAVE to buy the kid every damned thing he/she wants! What the hell is up with that? There were ten thousand toys I wanted when I was 10. Know how many of them I owned? 2 or 3 if I was lucky! Now parents build entire wings onto their houses just to hold everything they've already bought for the kid. Then go out and buy more! No wonder so many are do damned broke and in debt!

my normal body clock is to sleep from 4am-11am. but because of not only lawns being mowed & other normal daytime noises, i had to readjust my sleeping schedule.

ironically enough, i just moved into a sound-proof, 2nd story (i wanted the vaulted ceilings) luxary apartment. so i dont hear noises outside unless i have the windows open.

but i definatly know what you mean.

Ever watch Fear Factor? Ever notice someone's always "I'm doing it for my kids!"? Ever notice that same fucker always goes out ASAP too. Kids or no kids, you suck.

nice one .....

bill hicks had some great jokes about ppl who 'plop' out kids. also another quote comes to mind from the simpsons about these selfish parents. something about how milhouse was the most important thing to his mother right after her flings, happiness, ect.

and i used to live in a basement apartment, it wasn't anything shitty but the unit i lived in had four apartments, 2 were semi in the basement. anyways this single mom and her kids moves in upstairs. no big deal. we've never had kids in that building all the 5 years i'd been there and i guess i got used to the silence but once they moved in around 10 am in the summer screams and bangs and all sorts of shit right outside my window. they would stare into my window so i had to watch what was on the computer screen and they would try to come right inside my apartment but i always kept the door locked. the mother didn't seem to check on them for hours at a time. one thing i didn't understand is how much of a kick these kids got from watching water. they would turn on the faucet outside and just let it run full blast, wasting water and laughing. sure it was quite but that was my water, my money they were wasting. no amount of telling them to stop wasting water made any difference. i love kids but they aren't being taught anything in the way of manners these days.
