i lived in daytona for 12 years.... you are going to deal with the most unGODLY amount of traffic you have EVER seen....

Be sure to check out Main Street for the bars, it will be crazy... lots of middle aged rednecks, but its all part of NASCAR....

the vibe in that place is pure hardcore 1105 race... its crazy hella fun!!!

especially in the Infield.... ppl party like youve never seen in the infield of the daytona 500 2 days before and camp out there.... pure craziness....

i think it was even voted in maxim as one of the hottest party spots in the world, the infield of the dayont 500

enjoy!

ill be going back to daytona to visit my kids next month

Hey at least chess takes some skill. Any dumbass with a beer gut can make left hand turns for four hours.

Now if you wanna talk real racing.......I'll take a little rally car action anyday!

I was at the Twins race yesterday. I like them cause they are only 50 laps. The 500 is just to long, I like to watch the 500 on tv.

kmanrox is correct, traffic is terrible. Usually you will see cars backed up for miles on I-95 trying to get off at the internationalspeedwayblvd exit. If your driving in from the north i suggest getting off at ormond beach then exit east to us1 then go south to the speedway blvd and then head back west to the track. Either way be in for a traffic jam.

#3 R.I.P.
Peace Out!

I think it takes a great deal of skill to hurl over 3500 pounds of steel at high speeds thru turns. I'm not a huge NASCAR fan (I enjoy F1/CART more), but I don't buy into the idea these guys aren't talented.

Also, some NASCAR drivers (ie: Kyle Petty, John Andretti) compete in several other styles of racing, and are successful. So the idea that these are just a bunch of Redneck Moonshine runners with some fat sponsor deals is unfair.

One thing I enjoy about NASCAR racing is the passing. F1 used to have more passing, but over the years, it just boiled down to having the superior machine. The NASCAR guys will swap paint for better drafting/passing.

My home town where I was born is Ft. Lauderdale but now I live about 25 miles west of Ormond Beach in Crescent City, we might have crossed paths somewhere before, you never know, it's a small world.

NASCAR used to be true hardcore racing back in the 70's and 80's, any more it just pisses me off. As you know the Superspeedways like Daytona require the use of restrictor plates limiting the air/fuel intake. Thus making for a dull fucked up race with very little passing. The only way for them to pass nowadays at daytona is with the draft, and with so many drivers on the same team out there you see alot of team members blockinging for each other. That just sucks IMO, and is how Dale ended his career.

I remember the last days of non restrictor plates when Bill Elliot qualified at over 220 mph. No one wants to see drivers get killed, but I think the resrictions bunch the drivers up too much, before the fastest cars could get out and race on the superspeedways and go for it. Its all fucked up now. But I still like it, just like I like all racing from dragboats to go carts, racing is fun no matter what kind it is in my book. I look at it all when I get the chance.

P.S.: Engines and racing allways have been a second passion of mine. I was a pretty good Cylinder head machinist. At one time quite a few years ago I was into it bigtime.
I worked for Coyote Engines in South Florida. We built mostly roundy round motors and boat engines. We had the account for TEAM USA'S offshore boat, 50' + long and 4 big block blown & dual carbs. That boat took 4 engines at a time. 1000+ HP each.. It was Bad Ass for 1988. Titanium intake valves Crane Roller cams and all. This is the same boat Don Johnsen fom Miami Vice and Kurt Russel drove. I had fun while it lasted there.
