ok so here is my TV buying problem...

oh my TV, I will be setting up a PS2, a DVD player, and a GAMECUBE.

now I can either get a plasma to mount on the wall

or I can get one of those DLPs

now I need room to put all these consoles, so I can either get a DLP with a stand, and put all the consoles there, or I can get a plasma TV with a stand (kinda gay) and put the stuff there, or I can put the plasma TV on the wall, but then I am really worried about wiring and the look (how all the consoles will connect to the plasma from where they are...

what do you guys think is the best idea?

ps. everything has to be in Black as the basement will have red and black leather couches, and i am hanging some oil paintings with thick black frame

I appreciate any input you guys give, thanx!

That's what we are doing, along with the speakers for the stereo. Our stereo/television store offers this type of 'in wall' installation.....that way you never see the cables or wires....nice and neat...makes it very sleek when you're mounting a plasma on the wall...

I saw one at Best Buy that had a remote control for it. It looked kinda stupid, but it is the only one I have seen that actually has a remote.

I am also looking at plasmas and stuff, but I have been reading really bad reports on the plasma's. It seems all of them still have an issue with cell memory over time (cells being burnt into the picture). From what I have been reading, these new plasmas still have a shelf life, you you spend 5k and get something that will last a few years..

I really want one as well, but I might go with the DLP hdtv or whatever.

Plasma is ass, go with DLP. With a Plasma you get X hours of usage out of it and then the plasma charge is shot, so you have to toss the unit. Can't recharge a plasma TV. With DLP you just stuff a new bulb in the back and you're golden.

I have a nice toshiba with about 8 dozen video ports on the fucker. I just have to press a button on the remote and it switches to the item I want to be watching. I have my DVD on HDMI, Satellite on component, xBox on component, VCR on S-video all in the back of the TV and I still have a few extra component and s-video on the side of the unit.

Don't skimp on the TV. Spend a few extra bucks on a high end unit.

If you go with the plasma, and want a real custom setup, and If you have the room in the wall to do so, you can even build an enclosed (like an audio component rack) cabinet into the wall, with the cables and such easily accessed from a closet behind the wall.

finish off the front of the cabinet with a smoked glass door.

Get a plasma with an external tuner like a pioneer.
I have my plasma on the wall and a stand below it with the tuner and the rest of the stuff.
I'll post a pic in a bit.

You should just buy a home theater receiver. They all have video switching built into them now.

My new Pioneer converts all the older types of inputs (svideo and composite) into a component video signal, so I can connect all my sources to the receiver (VCR, XBox, DVD, CD changer, satellite, computer video card output) and then just connect one component video cable from the back of my receiver to the TV. Then you just switch between the sources with your remote.

Easy. Receiver. You should have one anyway. Hook up your DVD player, games, any components, speakers, etc. Easy as pie.

BAD ADVICE ALERT HERE

Plasmas are king done listen to em none of these peope can afford one. They last a long time something like 40K hours you gonna watch that much tv? Anyway how long you plan to keep a tv? I usually upgrade em every few years at most. Definately stay away from LCD and DLP they are very DIM and still suffer bad viewing angles on many of them. The newer plasmas dont burn in unless you have a static pic for like 4 hours, shouldnt be a problem.

My LCD is great, its rear projection though. I love it. Was a great price too. But you're right, need to keep in mind how long it will be until you buy a new one. I went 2 years with my last TV, my new one will probably be longer though. I really don't see many upgrades coming out shortly that will top what I already have.
