From the article:
"Prohibition of alcohol fell flat on its face. The prohibition of other drugs rests on an equally wobbly foundation. Not until we choose to frame responsible drug use ? not an oxymoron in my dictionary ? as a civil liberty will we be able to recognize the abuse of drugs, including alcohol, for what it is: a medical, not a criminal, matter." |

It will never happen, because then the govt would have to admit they lost the war on drugs.
I personally think it should all be made legal. Then it would open up a huge new tax income for the govt and then they could concentrate on giving people access to free rehab, instead of concentrating on arresting abusers. The cops could then do real police work instead of busting guys for a bag, that are back on the street before the cop is done with the paperwork.

Here's the money shot:
The demand for illicit drugs is as strong as the nation's thirst for bootleg booze during Prohibition. It's a demand that simply will not dwindle or dry up. Whether to find God, heighten sexual arousal, relieve physical pain, drown one's sorrows or simply feel good, people throughout the millenniums have turned to mood- and mind-altering substances. They're not about to stop, no matter what their government says or does. It's time to accept drug use as a right of adult Americans, treat drug abuse as a public health problem and end the madness of an unwinnable war. |

legalize it, then automatically triple sentences for those arrested for committing a crime while under the influence of them (alcohol should be the same way)

Another reason CANNABIS.COM becomes more valuable everyday
![]() Highest bonafide offer received to date is $500K along with several other 6-figure offers recently. $975K USD, for a limited time, takes the CANNABIS.COM domain package, including some common typo versions, CANN.COM (a nice 4 letter!), and much of the website content ... an interesting business and a great investment! Ron p.s. $975K will give me enough to visit Scores a few times ![]()

Another police chief in the EU, in fact several of them, had proposed legalizing drug abuse several years ago.
The result was a change of drug laws within the UK and a few other EU countries where, for example, a user of pot is no longer a criminal. Criminal charges are possible in the instance of dealing - irrespective whether this is pot or harder drugs. The proposal of Norm Stamper to legalize - not decriminalize - drugs, is similar to the EU scenario. The effects of drug abuse, especially use of hard drugs, can be devastating both to users and those around them. Drug abuse has no class boundaries, - it's like alcholism, domestic violence and pedofile conduct, - all are damaging in various ways. Proposals for changes of drug laws need to come from people like Norm Stamper and others who have background experience in handling the victims and dealers. Some proposals may seem sensational - they do to me, but I, like most of the general public, don't "know" the drugs biz and how to "manage" it. It's best left to professionals to handle and an acceptance by legislators. Any experienced drugs enforcement officer knows pot is relatively harmless, but their brief is to uphold laws shackling smokers of joints - a total waste of time and resources. The one and only time I ever "used" was with pot - I wanted to know what the fuss was about and shared a joint with a drugs officer. I asked what's the max penality of this gross infringement of the law? 8 years!! It's nice to see taxpayers money being put to good use. The flip side of the coin is little less than evil, where purveyors of hard drugs use and abuse down the distribution tree and kill anyone in their path. These people often have more power than any govt has devoted to a "war on drugs". That power extends from simple elements on the front line by having better arms and at the back end, they are well-guarded by loyal people who are given money and food in crop-growing countries. When captured, although they may be convicted of drugs offenses, the main offences are often homicides. The sooner legislators adopt an acceptance in listening to those with drugs experience, the better. PS Equally damaging, if not more so simply because of scale, are "legal drugs" - the kind purveyed by EJ Lilley and with the approval of the FDA. Tho intended as medication, and many perform an excellent job doing this, - scripts (and repeat scripts) are grossly over-prescribed. "Legal drugs" are now a multi-billion profit center with marketing plans exceeding the medical needs of the average individual. The US is now, by far, the most over-dosed society on the planet.

![]() And they say stoners are lazy :smoke ... Yes, I'm persistent when I know I've got a winner, such as the CANNABIS.COM package
![]() There has been a lot of serious interest - the sticking point isn't the domain, which many folks think is awesome, but rather the funding of such a purchase - many folks believe it's worth around a million, but few folks out there have that type of money to spend ... There are probably less than two dozen people here who could afford to buy CANNABIS.COM at $975K USD ... However it only takes one to get the sale done ... many have seen my posts, but still not sure ... the prospect of legalization in the near future, such as described in this thread, may be what further convinces one of them to buy CANNABIS.COM ![]() Ron

Drugs have never been absent from American life, but the type and level of use have varied over time. Legal responses to drugs were profoundly influenced by the evolving interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, which, until the twentieth century, reserved to the states the police powers to regulate the health professions and drug availability. The result was a generally free economy in drugs until late in the nineteenth century when an ineffective patchwork of state antidrug laws were enacted.
